Neelesh P | a person suffering from HIV can be detcted via normal blood check up? |

i dont know wht you meant by normal blood check up..however, if someone's HIV positive its can be detected through Elisa test and test for VDRL.(These are the tests specifically designed to detect is someone's HIV +ve) |

No. You have to sign consent for it and it has to be done specially. They could see that your white count is a little off or your platelets or red cells and that could warrant further bloodwork, but if it all came back normal, they wouldn't say anything. |

There are 4 types of tests available:
*
Virus based tests: These include viral culture, PCR for HIV RNA or HIV DNA, P24 antigen detection.
*
Anti HIV antibody tests: These include HIV ELISA, immunoflouroscence & Western Blot test.
*
Immunological tests: These tests are for B cell & T cell function and include CD4 count, CD4%, CD 8+count, S. Immunoglobulins etc.
*
Surrogate markers: These are markers of T cell activation & include B2 microglobulin levels, neopterin levels, IL2 levels etc.

It is a special test to check for the antibodies. If the doctor does not request that HIV check when they send you for blood work no one would look for it, so it would not show up on a normal blood work test. If you had high white cell count, or other abnormality in the blood work then they might run more tests to see why. If they have enough blood they might then run the HIV test, most likely you would be called in to give more blood though if any reading is abnormal. |

It depends whether this normal blood checkup actually consists of an HIV test! You need to find out exactly what they're testing for, you can't assume HIV is included. Various state/province disclosure laws mean that this test won't be given without consent and forms and such if you live in certain places.
But it IS possible that your normal blood checkup includes an HIV test. It does where I live. Don't be sure until you actually find out, though. |

There is no such thing as a normal blood checkup. They don't randomly draw blood for checkups. They are always checking something. HIV testing has become a pretty standard check on any blood draw, though, as long as you request it. Edit: You can probably go to a clinic and get tested for free if you are curious. |
