What motivates you to work out?
I'm 5'5 170 lbs. While my love is away for two months, I need some changes in my life. I feel so unhealthy and I feel like I don't have enough energy. I need some changes. I just feel like a somewhat-thin person underneath this body. I believe it would make me feel more alive and will boost my confidence. What's your beef? Thank you! :-)

What worked for me was understanding what really would work and realistic expectations of how long it would take to see results so i didn't get discouraged.

I started with modifying my diet (South Beach diet worked great!) and exercise (started slowly with 20 minutes 5 times a week and now am up to 45 minutes 6 days a week).

Diet will contribute about 70% to weight loss while exercise is 30%, but doing both is the best bet...and don't forget to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day!

Losing 1-2 lbs. per week is what can be expected with a consistent steady weight loss program. You'll probably loose more than that the first two weeks, but then it will taper off. But stick with it even after your significant other returns because even though 1-2 lbs. a week may not sound like a lot, just think that after 4 months that could be anywhere from 16-32 lbs!

Good luck!

Looking good in a bikini motivates me to workout... Summer time is here for me haha

Kandie Mc
use that as your motivation.
you want to look good, feel good, then go for it =]

MUSIC! it always makes me jump around (especially rock) like im on crack and do weird stuff for like two hours straight...... ; P

Mitchell P
actually when i work out and im gettin tired i focus on somethin that makes me angry and it keeps me goin for a little while longer

wow in 2 months you could do yourself proud. Get up 1/2 hour earlier than you normally do and go walk. You wont believe how much energy you will have during the day. The main thing is Do this for yourself, nobody else. You dont have much to loose, just do it now before it gets out of control, because trust me, ITS HARD!

To feel good about who you are, and be comfortable with your own body.

find a friend to help you. I car pool to work just so we both go to the gym after workand there's no excuses or way out of it.

eat right too.,...you'll feelgood

Okay first off get an ipod and fill it with all your fave motivating songs and listen to it while working out. Do stuff you love while working out. Run through a favorite park, horsebackride if you love animals, swim if you love water, bike, etc. Get a buddy who loves working out or hire a personal trainer or make a buddy at the gym. Then workout with them itll be easier. Get in an hour a day at least. and dont ruin it by eating unhealthy

Oh thats great that youve acknowledged that in yourself. Your on your way. Next step it to stop talking about it and do it. But thats the way to go. Enough talk and more action ,as the saying goes. Get that music in your ears, fast music that has a real good beat and power walk, run, eat well, drink well, sleep well and have the power of you to make it and you will if you want it bad enough. Thats what will boost you.

find an activity that you LOVE to do!! I love to swim--its fun and it keeps me in shape!
Try running, biking, hiking, a sport, rollerblading, dancing, or even walking...
With eating---eat a good breakfast (yogurt, fruit, whole wheats) and watch your portions

a drive to know that i can be the best i can be

When im sad or mad i get joy out of working out.. something about runnng while mad makes me have the best work out.. I love to cook too so when im feeling fat i cook just veggies and rice and after i feel so healthy.. Im in the same boat. Unfortunatly i have to go till sept. I would just start doing 20 min of cardio a day or everyother day and then do arms once a week and legs once a week.. dont try to over achieve it. Be realistic about your goals.

What ALWAYS motivates me to work out are: GIRLS!!!
All I need to do is think about the faces of pretty girls and that is motivation enough. I know you already have a gf, but it still feels good when you go outside and girls start starting at you as you pass by them. That is the ultimate goal.....atleast for me:)

the quote "train like a madman" keeps me training hard in the gym and anywhere else

I watch Rocky montage and I get all excited to workout.
Listen to the songs while working out. It motivates me greatly.
I thought I never could do 5 mile run, but I can do it with the music.

I enjoy training , you feel well and sleep better. I like the feeling that my bpdy is ready for action , i really dont like the feeling that you feel weak and cant move properly. Exemple if you never jumb or run , it will be painfull and very hard to do later on

To live an active healthy lifestyle, and lose fat and gain muscle!

It does boost your confidence, exercise heals everything and eventually you LOVE it. I do it just to look good to be honest, having nice abs and chest works wonders for the confidence!

first of all, believe it or not, exercising GIVES you energy! my motivation to work it is that it's fun, and afterwards i get to relax and feel proud of myself.

you should find an exercise that suits your personality, lifestyle, and one that you enjoy. there is so much out there! my dad is a cyclist (like lance Armstrong) and he loves it. he'll go for 2 hour bike rides and then go the next day because he wants to. my mom doesn't exercise at all and she's at least 230 pounds (estimating)

good luck!

because am going to turn 30 this year and i really don't have any excuses to get more in shape..am still young, have no children, and i am single..so y the hell not..i have been going to the gym like almost 5 yrs. now and noticed the results have kinda stopped.then a couple weeks ago i got a personal trainer twice a week for 30mins and people r already complimenting me. i love it and hopefully by my b-day in mid june i'll be able to wear a two piece for the first time in my life..btw am 5'3 and around 132..my main goal is to get rid of my spare tire..lol

i work out because it releases stress and i get to get away from my wife for about two hours. i also like being flirted with when i go to the store and looking good naked.

first stop complaining about it. DO IT. whinning does not help...it just bothers the people you are whinning to and makes you feel bad. second, find a sport or an excercise that you will like and be persistant at it. treat it like homework. mix together physical and mental streghtening excercises like running and yoga. Third, do not go on a strict diet... this will only make you lose energy and, although you may feel "thin" after sucessfully not eating much for a day, you will be sacrificing both ambition and sanity. =D. eat like you normally would. always keep in mind that health is most important...that no matter what you could fit into, if your on the verge of fainting... you will feel worse than you did before all the crap you went through. Fourth, don't look at the weight scale, look in the mirror. do you like the person you see? no matter how much you weight, confidence comes from within. It does not come from weight. excercise, be happy, and live life through your heart not your weight.

nothing so far. I will watch this question for some suggestions.

it will make you feel better and you will have more energy. i suggest going to a gym. if you pay money to work out, you will feel obligated to go. carry a picture or note around that reminds you of what your goal is. get inspirational music to work out with. work out with friends.
good luck!

tell yourself youll get skinny and look great and feel healthy, just workout, and listen to music thats motivating, or look at beatiful skinny girls and say you wanna look liek that and do what you have to do.

my husband is away as well..has been for 2 months and will be home in 4. before he left i had been desperately trying to drop the 60 pounds of baby weight from my last pregnancy (i gave birth in september 07) so i decided to take this opportunity to get myself in the best shape possible and surprise him with the gorgeous woman he first fell in love with. i stay motivated by thinking about how surprised he's going to be when he sees me at the airport. to give me an extra kick, i picked out an outfit that i want to wear when i see him and i hung it up by my elliptical. good luck, it takes time but it's so very worth it. :)

Thinking about how great the end result will look and feel. It will also increase my self confidence and I create fun ways to make the workout enjoyable and not a pain or chore

If you start swimming (not recreational, but legit competitive or hard practice) you will feel so much better. I felt the same way as you about 2 months ago. I stopped swimming 4 years ago to play tennis so swimming wasn't hard to get back, but it will give u lean muscles, really good cardio, and you'll feel like you could run a mile easy. Swimming works everything.

I'm tired of hearing 'you look great for having THREE KIDS'...gez, just kick me in the gut...so I just remember hearing that each time I want to avoid my work out machine and it gets me working out in no time.

Set a goal to lose 12 lbs in 2 months. That should be about 4 in. on the gut.
I found this on Yahoo Health
I hope it helps

It is a time-honored tradition to make resolutions at this time of year. If your resolution is to lose weight - and keep it off, then keep reading! Here are six simple tips that will have you losing weight in a balanced and healthy way.

1. Lose weight with water.
Water is essential for everybody - it is also the key to losing weight. If you haven't been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water. This water retention equals extra unwanted weight.

By drinking more water, you are not only flushing out toxins, you are also teaching your body that it no longer needs to store water. Drink at least 60 ounces of water (about 8 glasses) a day. Boil water and sliced lemons, and drink this throughout the day to help with fluid retention. If you are still not sold on the merits of water, try this on for size: water is a natural appetite suppressant.

2. Soup up your weight loss program.
A simple dietary change will have you shedding pounds: eat a bowl of soup at least once a day. Nutritious, low-salt soups will nourish you as they flush waste from your body. People who eat a serving of soup daily lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories but don't eat soup. Go for homemade soup whenever possible, as canned soups are loaded with salt and chemicals.

3. Eat early to keep weight off.
The human body follows a circadian rhythm, which means that the same foods eaten at breakfast and lunch are processed differently than when eaten at dinner. Studies show that when you eat your daily protein and fat at breakfast you tend to lose weight and have more energy; however, eating the same things at dinner tend to increase tendencies toward weight gain. I suggest that you eat your last meal of the day by 7 p.m.

4. Eat smaller meals, more frequently.
Follow an eating schedule with five little meals every day. Eating steadily through the day keeps you from becoming famished and overeating at your next meal. Make a low-fat trail mix from raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried plum, and apples and have it available at all times to avoid the tempting lure of high-calorie snacks.

5. Adopt a balanced approach to your diet.
Most of the fad diet programs out there nowadays are extreme in a few recommended foods, or else deprive the body of food altogether. This works in opposition to our metabolism and the results usually don't last, producing a yoyo effect that depresses your metabolic function - not to mention your self-esteem. We are natural beings that need a balance of nutrition from all sources.

Your diet should consist of a balance of organic sources of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Instead of white rice and pasta, opt for brown rice, bulgur, millet, or buckwheat.

Eat more green, Chlorophyll-rich foods such as broccoli, kale, spinach, and Asparagus. Eliminate candy, sugar, soda, and all simple sugars from your diet. Excess sugar ends up being stored as fat in your body, which results in weight gain. Also, keep dairy to a minimum because most dairy products are high in saturated fat. Avoid fatty foods, processed or fried foods.

6. Walk off the weight.
The No. 1 cause of weight gain is inactivity. Physical activity is the key to speeding up your metabolism and burning excess calories. The best way to be physically active is to use your legs! Walk as often and as long as you can. Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Step outside during your break at work and take a walk around your building. Consider joining a local hiking club. Try taking a walk 30 minutes in the morning or 30 minutes in the early evening.

I hope this article helps you shed some pounds and add on the years! I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!
