Actually the previous answer is correct--Crisco. We use it on folks with bad eczema all the time. And it is great for treatment of dry hands. Also remember not to wash your hands in very hot water. When you towel dry- pat dry- don't rub the towel. Avoid drying or scented soaps-- dove is usually recommended. And finally moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! |

Ginger invigorates, and oil soothes. Try this double dose for dry skin.
2-inch piece of fresh ginger
2 teaspoons light sesame oil
2 teaspoons apricot kernel oil
2 teaspoons vitamin E oil
½ cup cocoa butter
Preheat oven on lowest setting. Finely grate the ginger just enough so that you have about an 1/8 teaspoon of ginger "juice." To obtain the juice, squeeze the freshly grated ginger over a small bowl. Place the ingredients (including the ginger) in a glass container and heat just until the cocoa butter is melted and the oils are blended. Pour into a clean, dry container and store in a cool dry place. You can add a few drops of orange or other essential oil for a nice twist. |

Olive Oil or vaseline and gloves before bed. Warm the oil a little and it will help. Keep your hands out of water as that can cause them to dry further. |

When you wash your hands, you allow thast part of your body to rehydrate. The problem is that you lose moisture. The solution is to seal in the moisture after you rehydrate. Petroleum jelly is effective but messy. If you have disposable plastic gloves, put them on over the petroleum jelly. |

Every night when you go to bed, smother your hands in Vaseline and put on a pair of gloves. (This works for feet as well!)
Whenever you have to put your hands in water, wear rubber gloves.
Commercial creams do help. Smooth on a cream or lotion like E45 cream or cocoa butter regularly throughout the day. Avoid anything with added fragrance or anything that irritates your skin. |

This is fast and guarantees that your hands will be baby soft in a few days. Before going to sleep, apply petroleum jelly to both hands. Slip each hand into a bag and secure the bag at your wrist. Don't take the bags off until the next morning no matter how uncomfortable you feel.
After your hands are soft again, apply hand lotion each day during the wintertime.
You need 2 clean plastic bags -- the kind that you put your vegetables in at the produce counter. Also need 2 rubber bands big enough to encircle your wrist. Need some petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Those throwaway rubber gloves will work as well. |
