I can't fall asleep until about four in the morning. How can I start falling asleep earlier?
I lied in bed for hours and hours but I couldn't fall asleep. I got in the habit of staying up super late because I like the night, but now I need the sleep because I have work.

Here try this old fashion trick:
Lie on your back and relax your arm, legs, feet, and any other body parts and close your eyes and then *snap*,you're asleep!

Either get less sleep the night before, or take 1.5-2 doses of NyQuil and you'll be asleep after about 45 min. Stop trying to go sleep, just lie down and try to stay awake with your eyes open. It sounds off but trust me, it works. There's a scene in Saving Private Ryan where someone talks about this, lol.

if you have patience you can go to bed a few minutes earlier every night. else you can torture yourself and go to bed when supposed to, lie awake, get up on time, little sleep, make yourself stay awake until proper bedtime, then sleep and stick to the schedule from then on

dont eat or drink anything but water after 7pm and go to bed at the time you want to start sleeping at. just turn on a dim light and read or do a puzzle. do this every night until you fall asleep. It might take a while but your body will adjust. it will probly take a week or two. also if you can warm up some water to drink. the warmth of the water will help you calm down to sleep.

Try Simply Sleep. It's formulated to suppress the central nervous system. But it won't make you tired in the morning... it doesn't help you stay asleep, it just helps you fall asleep. I take it about 30 minutes before bedtime, and I generally have no problem falling asleep. It's made by Tylenol, and you can find it at any drugstore, wal*mart or Target.

get S.H.I.T FACED drunk and then crash out...

I have the same issue. I stay up until 3 in the morning EVERY night, and wake up at 6:30am. I can't take naps and when I try sleeping at night, I toss and turn.

If I lay in bed for about 2 hours (lay down at 11) I can pass out by watching TV. I was having problem of the TV waking me up an hour later, but I found the sleep timer and it lets me fall asleep.

If you lay down at 10 or so, with the lights out, and nobody in bed with you (which is KEY), you could probably be out by 11.

if you still can't fall asleep, melatonin worked well for me, just take a 1mg or 3mg pill at 8 or so and you will be asleep within 2 hours and sleep at least 6 hours. melatonin is a natural occuring chemical in the human body and taking the pill just increases the amount making your mind feel tired. it can be picked up at any vitamin shop.

Try cutting out caffeine at least six hours before you go to sleep. You may want to try over the counter sleeping pills, they have helped me(I use the brand "Sleep-Eze" and use their extra strength pills).

i too can't go to sleep until about 2 or 3 in the morning, but if i could just make myself get up earlier then i would go to sleep earlier so that's what i would recommend you try to do too :)

You'll need to reset your internal clock. Make sure you are not active for at least two hours before you want to sleep. Avoid caffeine after 2 PM. Turn your lights out at least an hour before you go to bed. Don't watch or read anything stimulating like the news or a suspense thriller. Do some relaxation techniques or stretch before bed. Exercise during the day. Drink warm milk, if you can stand it, before getting ready for bed. Have a bedtime routine: do the same thing every night just before bedtime. Within a short time, you should be getting sleepier earlier.

If you find that your mind is racing all night long, talk to a doctor. You may be having manic episodes or ADHD and you'd need medication to quiet the racing thoughts. You could try taking Benadryl about 30 minutes before bed. It is inexpensive and is in many over-the-counter sleep remedies (you can get it even cheaper if you buy the store's version of Benadryl).

Those are the major areas you need to address for good sleep hygiene, but here is a link to more:

Good luck!

work out -- it wears you out. Lay off the caffeine at least eight hours before bed. Wake up earlier... you'll adjust.

don't take naps during the day and get up earlier. One day you're gonna be really tired but you have to make yourself stay up.

Start going to the gym about an hour before bed. It tires you out and makes you healthier. Its what i did to cure my insomnia.

Besides warm milk and chamomile tea you can find stacks of other remedies in web searches for "natural sleep remedies" and "natural sleep aids".

try working out or something before you take a shower, see if it wears you out enough that you can go to bed earlier

Wake up earlier, don't take naps, and get in bed earlier. Your body will acclimate in a couple of days to your new non-vampire schedule.

Try to keep yourself super busy right before going to bed. After that take a very warm shower. When going to bed try to drink something warm chamomile tea is very soothing, milk with honey helps too! Sometimes thinking makes it very hard for people to fall asleep, so maybe if you write about your day in a journal it might help.

Good Luck!

Be well!

I have a problem sleeping as well. I have done a few different things that have helped me wind down. there are quite a few choices here.

1. you can make yourself wake up earlier than normal and eventually you body will adjust.
2. a couple of hours before you want to go to bed, turn most of the lights off in your house, only use a lamp or something similar for light. The darkness will register in your brain that it is time to sleep. and try not to do activities that peak your interest. Do something monotonous like reading a book or flipping through a magazine.
3. get some lavender oils or scented candles. lavender has a very calming effect.
4. and if all else fails....there is a pill that tylenol makes called "Simply Sleep" It is non habit forming and i have found that it works quite well. It doesn't cause you to be drowsy in the mornings or make you feel weird...it helps you to...well...simply sleep:)

hope this helps!

get up really really early in the morning so u will b tired earlier at nite. then u'll b able 2 sleep early.

Getting up earlier in the morning will make you more tired at night.

Get yourself ready for sleep by relaxing a few hours before bedtime -- take a warm bath,or write in a journal or diary. Buy a decent mattress. A mattress is worth more than you think, considering you use it every night, so don't hold back!Having a clean room can be calming when trying to fall asleep. A messy room will distract most people, and it can make you feel uncomfortable. Soundproofing your room will not only help you fall asleep, it will help you stay asleep. If you cannot block off external sounds, look into getting a white noise machine. Reading will help the mind focus on only one thing, instead of racing about the day's activities. Read something calming rather than an exciting thriller novel. Fairy tales or nonfiction would be good choices. If you're having trouble trying to sleep, try a deep breathing exercise. For example, lie on your back in bed and breathe in deeply for four counts, watching your stomach rise, and then breathe out for four counts. Your goal is to breath in and out about six times per minute. Do this for about ten minutes (60 breaths) and then switch so you're lying on your right, and repeat the breathing process. Another way to go about doing it is this:

Take a deep breath using one nostril closed,
Now exhale with the nostril that is closed, during this exhalation, close the other.
Repeat these steps using the other nostril. Do this 60 times (at least 10 minutes) and you will feel very dizzy/relaxed.

Funny, I get up at 4 to go to the gym. I have no trouble falling asleep by 10.

Try getting up at 4:30 to go to the gym. And don't watch tv at night. Drink a cup of chamomile tea at 8:30 while reading or listening to NPR - you'll fall asleep on time, no problem.
