Eyes red from contact lenses?
Okay, so I've had contacts for about 4 months now and I'm using Acuvue 2 and they've been great. Now all of a sudden my eyes are starting to get red around the iris along the whites when I where them. If I take a break from them, the redness stays for about 2 days without wearing them. I was just wondering if this was normal? I'm taking care of them exactly as my eye doctor told me and I'm confused. Should I stop wearing them?
Additional Details
I wear them for two weeks before throwing them away

And actually, now that I think of it, exactly two weeks ago I fell asleep with them in on accident and took them out immediately when i woke up and didn't wear them for the next few days. Ever since they've been getting red. I've only wore them about 4 days total since.

As others say on here see an optometrist. The possible etiologies(causes) of red eyes are numerous.

Another suggestion would be to ask your optometrist about Bausch & Lomb contacts. My eye doctor told me that it would give my eyes more oxygen. It does and I don't have near the redness I used to. I can even sleep in them i.e. the FDA has approved them for overnight use (B & L Purevision is what I wear). I still don't though. Also, you only have to change them once a month, which is better in my opinion.

Also, try using an enzyme cleaner called Clear Care. If you leave your contacts in the tube for at least 6 hrs your contacts will feel great. Good luck.

Call your optometrist, and stop wearing them while you wait for an appointment

Stop wearing them and go to a eye doctor. The same thing happened to me and I went and he said to use eye drops with them. I've been doing that for 2 years and it works great which is probably what he will have you do.

Metal Princess
Perhaps you are sensitive to this brand. I would stop wearing them.

WELL I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ,BUT IT USUALLY HAPPENED BECAUSE I DIDN'T CLEAN MY CONTACTS PROPERLY OR I WORE THEM TO LONG. DO YOU PUT CONTACT DROPS ON YOUR CONTACTS BEFORE YOU PUT THEM IN AND DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS WHEN YOU PUT THEM IN AND TAKE THEM OUT OF YOUR EYES. I BELIEVE YOU COULD ALSO HAVE THE WRONG KIND OF CONTACTS BECAUSE I HAD TO GET SOME OTHER KIND OF CONTACTS BECAUSE THE FIRST ONES I HAD WEREN'T FOR DRY EYES. I HAD TO GET THE ONES THAT KEEP YOUR EYES MOIST.

kayla
Yes stop wearing them.

its normal. it just gets irritated sometimes. or maybe its not properly cleaned. cleans it with the solution properly. and rest your eyes if it turns red..

Yes. You should stop wearing them. I think it is just normal. Just remember, you shouldn't have contacts in ALL THE TIME. Take a little break from them for a while. Then your eyes should have a chance to settle down.

But,

If you weren't wearing contacts and your eyes just turned red,

I'LL HAVE THEM FOR YA! ;D

lol

I've always, ALWAYS wanted RED EYES!! woo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Janie K
how long are u supose to have (before throwing them out)??? if i go longer the amount of time then they start irratating my eyes. Go to your eye doctor...he might know why they are making your eyes red.

best of luck

E
I've had that problem before. Sometimes dirt or whatever can build up on your contact. Change them and don't wear them for a few days. I was given eye drops for infection, even though there was really no infection.
If you continue to have irritation go to the eye doctor.

ask your optomotrist, but they may just not be completely clean

how old are the contacts? you should always change them as frequently as they suggest, using old contacts or keeping them in longer than youre supposed to can be very dangerous. i never thought so, and ive had contacts for 10 years. ive always left them in, used 30 days ones for almost a year, slept with them in, etc.... until i started getting ulcers in my eyes... even then i didnt stop until i ended up in the hospital getting drops in my eyes every 30 mins around the clock for 3 days straight. they said that if i would have waited 2 more hours to come to the hospital the ulcer would have grown big enough that it would have hit my pupil and i would have been blinded.

MovieChic
It might be to dryness of the eyes, use Visine for Dry eyes. But if problem continues, ask your doctor to switch to a different brand. I wear Acuve Hydraclear and they work great.

Have you had any nights where you have worn them through the night forgetting about taking them out?

Or maybe they werent moist enough and have dried out in your eyes.

My best friend has contacts and her eyes went all red and puffy due to wearing them through the night, if i were you i would stop wearing them and go back to your eye doctor and tell him maybe you need different contacts as these ones are starting to dry your eyes out.

Good luck and i hope your eyes feel a bit better.

mbs4174
def stop wearing them and go see the doc

I've never heard of this reaction to contacts. Since you are talking about your eyes and vision, I would wear my glasses, make an appointment with your eye doctor and don't take any chances.

No this is not normal i've worm contacts for years and never had any sign of redness. Better check with your eye doctor because this is'nt right.

hopefully you are not wearing the same pair for the four months stated..... dryness over wearing, infection could be a whole lot of things. but contacts are not irritating if properly worn so many people do not take proper care of their eyes now a days. and in the long run will scar.. take this seriously peepz

I would have the eye doc check them out again. I had problems with redness and found out my corneas were deteriorating due to lack of oxygen! I had to use drops and rub an ointment on them.

If you can get by without wearing them, I would, but make sure the doc sees them when they're red to have a better idea of what is going on & where.
