At what age is a teenager ready for laser eye surgery?

If your doctor recommends it then it should be fine. Usually after 15 though, unless your eyes are already very bad.

It all depends on the age and genes. If you have terrible eyes you may be ready to do it at an earlier age. If you have pretty good eyes but still need glasses or reading glasses you may want to wait for some time.

But LASIK eye surgery isn't right for everyone. You need to meet certain requirements before submitting to LASIK eye surgery. Here are a few of the guidelines used in determining if LASIK is a good choice for you -

1) You should be over 18 years of age.
2) Your corneas must be healthy.
3) You should not have had a significant change in your lens prescription in the last 12 months.
4) Women should not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
5) You should be in good general health.

Ask your doctor- usually its 21 or over.

Britain rules

i believe at 18

They usually won't doing unless you are adult because they want to make sure your eyesight isn't still changing

My eye doctor advised me not to get it until I was at least 23. why? because He said my eyes were still growing/developing and it is more possible for irreversible damage before 23 because they're growing. i dont know how factual this is but its just my 2 cents.

varies on the person, you're going to want to wait till your eyes stabilize. cant rush it or the laser surgery is a waste.

This varies throughout different countries and clinics, however, the general age is 18.

You will probably have to see your optometrist to ge the full information about this, but in my understanding, the main influencing factor is that your eyes need to have stopped developing and your eyesight has to have stopped deteriorating.

If your eyesight hasn't stopped deteriorating before you get the treatment it is highly likely that it will continue to deteriorate even after the laser surgery.

i often asked my eye doctor this because i refuse to wear glasses and i cant put contacts in... i was told you have to be about 23 to get the procedure... it all depends on if your eyes have fully developed and for most people its in their younger 20's

They aren't your eyes don't fully develop until after your teenage years. you will probably have to wait until your in your 20's unless new technology is developed.

Not until at least as earliest as 21, but i say about 25. You're still developing, internally and physically. I would not suggest that you get lasik done til then.

Then and when you decide to have it done, you MUST do your homework on the doctor(s) that you're having it done with. Remember there are no gaurentees that you'll see 20/20 or better. Keep in mind thought that your eyes will regress when you get older, and ending up needing reading glasses as well. There are lots of reason why you should and shouldn't get it done. So please make sure you fully understand why you're doing it. If you don't need it, don't get it done. There are many offices that will do it for CHEAP, they too have specials, but you have to look at the doctor. Sometimes the offices will have a doctor who has least experience do it. Although, having the chief surgeon, of the office do will be more costly. Keep that in mind!!

But again, im not a doctor, so ask him/her!

The vision has to be stable for 2 years...no changes...

So that normally is only after growth has stopped...in early 20's for males.

A couple of years earlier for females.
