Lo
I don't mean to sound patronising as I'm sure you're well aware of this. Your low blood pressure is a direct side effect of your anorexia, it's caused by a low body temperature, malnutrition and dehydration. There isn't any 'quick fix' to sort it. Although the appointments will seem repetitive and tedious you need to remember your doctor is their to help you & get you on the path to recovery so you need to help one another.

You should try ehow or google. You should definately consider eating better (not alot at once!!) and eating gradually more and more portions until you can eat normally. And be careful with the salt because it can dehydrate you, so make sure you get enough fluid intake.

You need a new doctor! Your blood pressure and heart rate are individual to you. "Normal" blood pressure and heart rate are derived from measurements from thousands of "healthy" people. There is a statistical distribution of these numbers and the range where 99% of these people fall is then called "normal". However those healthy people outside that range are also normal. There is a saying in medicine to treat the patient and not the number. You shouldn't be forced into the "normal" range if you feel fine at your own individual heart rate and blood pressure. If your doctor doesn't understand this simple truth, then it's time to find another. You know what they call the guy who finished last in his medical school class...doctor! You're fine but still need to work on your eating disorder and the underlying cause of that. I am a cardiologist and you'd be surprised how many family doctors don't understand this.

Hi there I have had lots of heart problems and I would not recommend that anyone take salt, there is plenty in our food without adding more and a bag of potato chips is much more fun. Sugar is another no no eat a chocolate biscuit or a toffee. I don't want a white powder diet no thanks fruit and veg are ok. Mind you since I got my new heart valve Ive turned into a fatty.

I love you Molly. I want you to love yourself. Get busy here. Stay positive. Eat great food, think about it, food can enhance your life and makes your skin glow. it will raise your b/p. Jesus loves you Molly, and I agree with you that not all foods are good for you, but healthy food is good for you! Surround yourself with hugs and love, and stay positive. Make positive affirmations everyday and keep with similar people. keep in prayer and believe!

Lucy!
Heya aw well i would advise drinking these things called Complan or Build up. They really helped me when I went down to about 6 stone. Im 7 now but still take them every now and again for a little help. They are good if you dont wana eat a meal, just drink one or two of them instead! you get em from Boots or Asda! Good luck and let me know how you get on :). xx

Depending on the reason for your low blood pressure, you may be able to take certain steps to help reduce or even prevent symptoms. Some suggestions include:
* Drink more water, less alcohol. Alcohol is dehydrating and can lower blood pressure, even if you drink in moderation. Water, on the other hand, combats dehydration and increases blood volume.
* Follow a healthy diet. Get all the nutrients you need for good health by focusing on a variety of foods, including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean chicken and fish. If your doctor suggests increasing your sodium intake but you don't like a lot of salt on your food, try using natural soy sauce — a whopping 1,200 milligrams of sodium per tablespoon — or adding dry soup mixes, also loaded with sodium, to dips and dressings.
* Go slowly when changing body positions. You may be able to reduce the dizziness and lightheadedness that occur with low blood pressure on standing by taking it easy when you move from a prone to a standing position. Before getting out of bed in the morning, breathe deeply for a few minutes and then slowly sit up before standing. Sleeping with the head of your bed slightly elevated also can help fight the effects of gravity. If you begin to get symptoms while standing, cross your thighs in a scissors fashion and squeeze, or put one foot on a ledge or chair and lean as far forward as possible. These maneuvers encourage blood to flow from your legs to your heart.
* Eat small, low-carb meals. To help prevent blood pressure from dropping sharply after meals, eat small portions several times a day and limit high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Drinking caffeinated coffee or tea with meals may temporarily raise blood pressure, in some cases by as much as 3 to 14 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). But because caffeine can cause other problems, check with your doctor before increasing your caffeine intake.
