I have teeth that my dentist has put fillings in, but they still hurt - one on each corner of my mouth. He says that root canals won't help with the pain. Is this true?

root canal or extraction?
iv got a choice tomorow. i hate dentists but its got to be done. if i have them out will i have less trouble in the end?

[email protected]

I had the same problem... But I decided to go for the extraction because I wanted to get rid of this abscess.. And make sure it doesnt return! I had it done today, and I'm still in a little pain, but I know its going to be worth it, as I know that I wont have to go back with the same problem again... Good luck!!!x

If I were you, I will choose Root Canal to save my teeth specially my wisdom tooth, once it's gone it's gone, having original tooth still the best no doubt about that. Althought Root canal is costly but it will benefits you in the long run and you will not worry at all. Extraction is for easy fix and cheaper , this is the last resort I will suggest, once the teeth pulled out the gaps in between will cause the next tooth to move that doesn't feel good and doesn't looks good as well.
if you can't afford the root canal other alternative is Filling which is cheaper that root canal.

yes if it is a front tooth No if it is a back one

always try to save your teeth

Root canal will have your tooth still there, but the dentist will kill the nerve in the process. This will completely take away the pain for that tooth.
I've been through it.
However, eventually, with the teeth without it's nerve, your tooth will gradually rot, and eventually your tooth will have to undergo crowning or extraction anyways.

Your Choice, hope I helped.
But it depends on what tooth/teeth which you're talking about.
Mine was at the front, so I went through root canal and then crowning, as I wouldn't want to smile with one front tooth in future.

Even is it's at the sides, I say extraction is not recommended.

I would go for the root canal as you still have the tooth, I remember seeing a program on Channel 4 years ago on dentistry and the guy there said each tooth is worth £1000 as that was how much it cost for an implant to replace the tooth, I think the cost is probably £2500 now. Good luck

Well if you go to the right dentist your root canal will be fine, it cost a lot more depending on your type of insurance and whether they pay 80%, 50%, or 0%. If you get a Root Canal chances are you are going to need a crown but then the tooth is there. If you get it extracted it is gone forever. It depends on what your priorities are!!

Ask your dentist for the long term solution

I, like others, have had root canal treatment over and over again,

then extraction was the end result, and the best solution

Root canal treatment doesn't come cheap either

Dentists are obliged to save teeth, but if the tooth is always causing

problems, it may in the long run, be better removed

My wife had a root canal done and then redone again, finally had to get it extracted and fitted with a crown (fake tooth).

The root canal was done by 2 different dentists and it was very difficult to perform. The results were poor. Get the extraction if you feel that you have a history of problems with your teeth/gums.

Also, depends on the location of the tooth. Keep the visible teeth if you can.
Good luck!

I always recommend to attempt to save your teeth. You can never replace your real tooth or the feeling. It also depends on which tooth it is. If it's a molar you could pull it, I did and now 10 years later I have a bridge because my bite was off and caused other teeth to shift and such. In the end the cost was equivalent to two+ root canals. Ultimately there is no best choice. With a root canal you may or may not have to go back. It really depends on whether you want to keep your real tooth or not. Based on my personal experience and what I have seen other patients that have had to make the same decision, I would have opted to keep my real tooth. Best of luck to you! (I am curious as to what you decide though)
