Oh I am just so suprised that so many people wouldn't answer this question "cigarettes give you cancer regardless."
One in three people will succumb to the Big C in their lifetime, and one on six people smoke. That's still nearly one in three people getting cancer in their lifetime....sigh...eat tomatoes, leave out the seeds and you'll never get cancer...eat five portions of third world fruit and veg and outlive the producer's average life expectancy...fondle yourself in the shower to detect lumps and bumps...but what ever you do, don't succumb to tobacco, it calls the shots, even when the statistics contradict.
I heard once if you smoke while chewing gum your risk of mouth cancer is increased, but then Death & Taxes as they say...who's immune? |

No it isn't true.
Smoking AT ALL can cause mouth cancer.
The risks are increased by smoking whilst or shortly after eating or drinking |

Any way you smoke can cause mouth cancer and a whole host of other health problems that can cause death so one way to look at it is that EVERY way you smoke is wrong. There's no way to smoke that will shield you from the possibility of cancer. I hope you make sure your friend doesn't believe he is immune from cancer just because he smokes a certain way. |

I believe you are referring to reverse smoking. As dumb as it sounds there are people in certain countries that place the lit end of the cigarette inside the mouth!!!. And yes, this will increase the likely hood of developing a cancer because of the excess heat in addition to the cancer causing substances in tobacco. Smoking is the main cause of oral cancer, it will increase your risk by about 5 times. Excessive drinking of alcohol will increase your risk by about 3 times and the combination of smoking and excess alcohol will increase it by about 10 times. There are other risk factors, but these two are the main ones. Hope this helps. |

You can get mouth cancer from smoking cigarettes full stop, doesn't matter if its done the 'wrong' or 'right' way!! |

Yes, you can. The wrong way to smoke them is to have them in your mouth and lit. |

Well, there is no such thing as smoking "wrong" - if you are smoking PERIOD you are at an increased risk for cancer of the mouth and throat. There is no right way to smoke to eliminate or lower the chance of cancer - the only thing you can do to lower the risk is stop smoking. Take care :) |
