Uses
Azopt is used to treat elevated eye (intraocular) pressure in glaucoma (open angle).

Storage

Store at room temperature between 39 and 86 degrees F (4 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.

Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Azopt may be harmful if swallowed.

How To Use

Azopt is generally used three times daily by placing one drop in the affected eye(s) as directed by your doctor.
Shake the medication bottle well before use.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying these eye drops.
You may put them back in, 15 minutes after applying the drops.
To apply eye drops, wash hands first.
To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface.
For best results, Azopt must be used routinely as directed.
Continue using it for the full time prescribed.
Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch.
Place dropper directly over eye and administer the prescribed number of drops.
Look downward and gently close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes.
Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply gentle pressure.
This will prevent the medication from draining away from the eye.
Try not to blink and do not rub the eye.
Do not rinse the dropper.
Replace cap after use.
If you are using another kind of eye drop, wait at least ten minutes before applying other medications.
Administer eye drops before eye ointments, to allow the eye drops to enter the eye.

Side Effects

Blurred vision, tearing; bitter, sour or unusual taste; dry eyes; headache; diarrhea; nausea; and dizziness may occur.
If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
If you notice any of the following serious side effects, stop using Azopt and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: eye/eyelid problems (e.g., swelling, pain, redness, or discharge).
Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects: stomach pain, dark urine, easy bruising or bleeding, vision changes, persistent sore throat, fever.
An allergic reaction to Azopt is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies (especially to sulfas drugs), other eye conditions, kidney or liver disease.
Azopt may make you dizzy or cause blurred vision; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
Azopt should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is not known whether Azopt passes into breast milk.
Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using Azopt is not recommended.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: dorzolamide and other glaucoma eye drops, oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., acetazolamide, dichlorphenamide, methazolamide), high-dose salicylates (e.g., aspirin for rheumatoid arthritis).
