Uses
This medication is used to treat depression, bulimia, obesity and various obsessive-compulsive disorders. This medication may also be used to treat PMS (premenstrual syndrome).

Notes

Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
Do not store in the bathroom.

Prozac

How To Use

May be taken with food to prevent stomach upset.
Take this as prescribed.
Try to take each dose at the same time(s) each day so you remember to take it routinely.

Side Effects

May cause drowsiness or dizziness.
Other side effects include heartburn, loss of appetite, headache, anxiety, flushing or sweating, change in sexual desire or ability.
If these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor.
Notify your doctor if you develop a rapid heart rate, difficulty swallowing, white spots or swelling of the mouth/tongue or difficulty urinating.
In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Tell doctor your medical history, especially of a recent heart attack, a history of seizures; heart, liver or kidney disease, diabetes and of any allergies Because fluoxetine may make you dizzy/drowsy, use caution performing tasks that require alertness such as driving or using machinery.
Limit alcohol consumption.
This drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
This drug is excreted into breast milk.
The manufacturer of this drug states that taking this drug while breast-feeding is not recommended.
Consult with your doctor about breast-feeding.

Missed Dose

It is not necessary to make up the missed dose.
Skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of tranquilizers, antidepressants, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline), lithium, phenytoin, carbamazepine, tryptophan, medication for anxiety (e.g., diazepam), drugs used for diabetes, as well as fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine, sumatriptan and dexfenfluramine.
Fluoxetine may affect the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood.
Your dosage of diabetes medication may need to be adjusted when fluoxetine is started or discontinued.
Consult your doctor.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
