Sounds like a food allergy! A doctor can test you and tell you for sure, but a lot of people are allergic to peanuts, and the allergy can get worse with repeated exposure, and can even be fatal, so I highly recommend getting an allergy test!

Lynn K
You could have an allergy to the nuts you're eating and you should be tested. Go to your doctor and have them arrange for what it called scatch tests to see how serious the allergy is and if you are allergy to other related things. It might be something that's just annoying or it could be very serious. Either way you should know so you can prevent a possibly serious allergic attack later on.

Nut allergies are common. As much as you may enjoy this nut, you should probably avoid it. Allergies can get severe (and you can develop or lose them overnight). In severe cases, air ways can close up so much you'll need a trip to the hospital.

takemeawayasfarasyoucan
Could it be a food allergy? Many people are deathly allergic to nuts. The second time could be worse, so it would be a good idea to try to identify what caused it. The throat reaction is typical. If severe enough, it could cut off your breathing at the throat. For a mild reaction, you could keep some liquid benedryl on hand, which would help to reduce the allergic reaction, if it happens.

Here is some information from a drug company website about the reaction caused by an allergic reaction.

Anaphylaxis is a sudden, severe, and potentially fatal allergic reaction that can cause a wide range of symptoms, including breathing problems, fainting, rash, and nausea. Fortunately, your doctor can prescribe a fast-acting medication called epinephrine to treat this severe allergic reaction.

The Anaphylactic Reaction

1) An individual's immune system identifies a specific substance (for example, peanuts) to be an allergic trigger, or allergen. The immune system attempts to protect the body from that allergen by creating specific chemicals called antibodies.

2) The next time that person comes in contact with that same allergen, these antibodies identify the allergen. The immune system responds with an allergic reaction.

3) Allergic reactions can cause many types of symptoms, ranging from mild to severe. Some symptoms, such as a drop in blood pressure or breathing difficulty, can be life threatening.

Each year an estimated 1 out of every 10,000 people suffers an anaphylactic event. The incidence of food-based anaphylaxis is increasing, especially among children. Studies suggest this may be due to growing variety in the American diet, which may expose children to more foods containing nut proteins—a common allergen.

Food-based anaphylaxis is on the rise among children.

Anyone who has had an anaphylactic reaction is at risk for another reaction.

Allergic reaction to nuts can progress rapidly to anaphylaxis. Peanut allergy is responsible for more fatalities than any other type of allergy.

If you suffer from a nut allergy, strictly avoiding nuts, including peanuts and tree nuts like cashews and walnuts, and food containing nuts is the only way to prevent a reaction. But, it is not always easy to avoid these foods since many unsuspecting products contain nuts.

Always check the label ingredients before you use a product. In addition, check the label each time you use the product. Manufacturers occasionally change recipes, and a trigger food may be added to the new recipe. Also, keep in mind that many prepared foods, including baked goods, candy, and ethnic foods, can be contaminated with peanuts if products containing peanuts are prepared in the same place or by the same manufacturer. Always be prepared for this possibility and the risk of a reaction.

sounds like an allergic reaction. I would stay away from them. You should also mention it to your physician.

This may sound wierd, but is the nut scratchy going down? On the flip side (as Putty would say), some people are very allergic to nuts. You might want to get it checked. It can have very bad consequences.

sounds like an allergy. I would look into having an allergy test done. Your doctor would be the best person to see about it.

you likely have a mild alergy, if you know what kind of nut it is, you should start avoiding it.
