Sometimes just drinking more fluids will do the trick. Try some juices. Prune juice, Cranberry juice, lemon water, and Green Tea are great natural diuretics. They help Loosen your stools so that you have a natural flow instead of straining. Also some things to eat that will help are: oatmeal, brussel sprouts, leafy vegetables (Cabbage, spinach, collard greens and lettuce for example), as well as oatmeal. Good luck!

Go for the greens!!!! Eat allot of green vegetables and plenty of fruit. If you are having bowl trouble you should try the diet in this website that I found, you only have to do it for 5 days, and it will detox and cleans your body like no other diet I know. Plus you will lose weight and feel 10 years younger. Trust me it works!. Personal experience

My wife cooks me about every morning quick-oats, and I found this avoids generally problems with using the toilet.
Eating peanuts also seems to soften up stools, at least when I eat about 200 gram or more of them.
But, admittedly since I became married (years ago) my diet also changed considerably, and now eating balanced diets rather then just quick meals has also contributed to avoiding having hard stools.
Basically it is test and try what suits your body best, as what might work for one may not necessarily work for another person in the same manner.

Try apples, lettuce and a glass of milk. Virtually any fruits and vegetables work for me but those work the best.

You can eat foods that are high in fiber eg. fruits and vegetables..Also increase your fluid intake coult it be water and fruit juices. Try drinking tea..it also softens stools..Lastly, exercise so that your body can eliminate its toxins and you won't have a paralytic ileus or have constipation as well

Fresh apples are a great leveler. Something in the fresh apple peel but it doesn't work with just apple sauce or juice, to much of either of those will give you diarrhea.

Drink alot of water. The recomended amount per day would be good. I know it is hard to drink water, but if you get a water bottle and carry it around, you are more apt to drinking it. Or if you have certain times of the day when you will drink a certain amount would be good. You can also eat fruit, such as apples, peaches, plums, or prunes. That with the water intake can do wonders. It may take a day or two for your body to react, but it is doing the job slowly inside of you. You can also eat on bowl of bran flakes in the mornings every morning. Or any kind of cereal with bran in it. This helps me. If you cannot eat bran or wheat for some reason, just drink the plenty of water and eat fruit and vegies and you should start to see results within a few days. You must be consistant though. Ducolax is a suppository that is a stool Softener.

Metamucil helps. There are also 2 over the counter meds, Ducolace and senna. Both work really well. Colace softenes the stool and senna is a natural Vegetable Laxative (doesn' give you the runs though. just helps you stay regular so it doesn't get so hard it hurts.

Your colon absorbs water from food residue. As food waste stays in your colon, it progressively loses water content. Eventually, the waste becomes dry and difficult to pass. So here are a few tips:
Drink plenty of fluids. Liquid helps keep your stool soft. Drink water or another fluid whenever you eat, and always have some water when you're thirsty. drink 8 or more glasses of water each day,
Eat more fibre. Fibre helps bulk up and soften stool so that it passes smoothly through the digestive tract. Try beans, bran cereal, whole-wheat products, fruit and vegetables. To avoid problems with gas, add high-fibre foods to your diet slowly.
Heed nature's call. The longer you delay going to the bathroom once you feel the urge, the harder and drier your stool becomes.
Eat prunes or figs or have Prune juice. Both will soften stools and can be natural laxatives. Alcoholic beverages dehydrate the body, so beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages should be kept to a minimum. Daily exercise would also help with your bowel movements.
