willyo2340 | Do you believe a strong-minded person can't become addicted to drugs? |
If you believe you have a strong-mind does that mean you can overcome anything challanging even hard drugs? |
|

anyone can become addicted. Addiction is a disease and will affect anyone. Now people with a strong mind and dedication may have the ability to recover from their addictions. |

A strong minded person can become addicted to drugs! Once they are addicted it is hard for them to understand that they have a problem or more so admitt it because they don't like to admitt their faults. |

well its hard. it depends how much you abouse it and what type of drugs there are being used. the physical dependancy will over take your mind eventually. but if you have the desire to quit then start using less and less until you can wean yourself off of it. but if your go overboard then physical will over take you. just remeber mind over matter! |

do you believe a strong minded person cannot get cancer?? a disease is a disease, has nothing to do with how strong willed someone is. |
|

Jenny

Yes, but any addiction or bad habit is still a big obsticle, even for the strong minded. The strong minded just have better odds at overcoming things. |

Being strong minded person does not mean you are perfect in all ways of living ! One can have some weaknesses ! And so i don't believe on that ! |

No. Most drugs are physically addicting. Marijuana is the only drug I know that is more psychologically addicting |

i think your mind aint as strong as you think if you are influenced by drugs. |

Well, there are two parts to any addiction, Physical addiction occurs because your body becomes accustom to a certain amount of a controlled substance, and requires an ever increasing dose in order to function normally. Mental addiction occurs because your mind feels that you need a drug, and enjoys doing it, you also are influenced by popular culture, and friends to keep doing a drug. |

Drug addiction is not just psychological. It is a true dependency in the body. From the first toke, shot or pill pop, your body changes to require the drug. Everyone gets addicted, meaning everyone develops the dependence and wants more. The only variable is how easy it is to stop. For some it is nigh on impossible. |

ADDICTION CAN HAPPEN TO THE STRONGEST, WEAKEST, SMARTEST, DUMBEST, AND ANY WHERE IN BETWEEN |

There is an addictive personality that is more easily hooked if exposed to drugs like around 10% of people. Since it is a physical chemical interaction, strong minded people would perhaps come to terms and control addictions easier. This Crystal Met is apparently very bad so that a person is hooked on first exposure. Again it is a physical reaction, but the 'strong-minded' person could manage better to decide not to do on the psychological level but the physical could still be a challenge. |

I am strong minded...and I am a recovering drug addict! Been clean three years and I have found that being strong minded will not keep away a fatal disease such as drug addiction. I actively participate in a 12 step program that has given me confidence and hope. Not to mention a daily reprieve from active drug use |

I'm going to bring the answer in hard and heavy. If you don't like it, well, that's your perogative.
Anyway. That statement is really an excuse, or a justification. "I'm strong-willed enough." And for the most part, it's bull. With some lesser 'substances', it is possible, though extremely difficult. I have known people who have quit smoking cold turkey.. just had a day where they said "I'm not going to do it anymore." Even with that, on bad or stressful days, the statement, while somewhat jokingly said, does tend to come that, "I could really use a cigarette today."
As for the harder stuff... Let's say for a moment that someone isn't looking for an excuse, that they truly believe they're strong-willed enough. Drugs don't just affect your will. They create a chemical dependancy. Your body, including other parts of your brain, wind up craving the drug, -needing- it. There's a reason people that don't get their 'fix' tend to twitch and such.
Bottom line is this, I personally don't think it's wise. If you insist on experimenting with drugs, the odds are highly stacked on you getting hooked, regardless of how much willpower you think you have. |
