My medical question is are bed sores contagious?
I'm a care giver,

No, however you can get a staff infection if you have an open cut. If the subject has bed sores, he or she needs to be moved more often.

No, they are not contagious. Bed sores, also known as pressure sores, occur when vulnerable areas of the body (such as bony protuberances) experience a loss of blood flow for more than a few hours. They appear when a person is immobile, bedridden, or otherwise incapacitated. As the skin in the area without blood flow dies, the sore develops. Left untreated, they can rupture and get infected. The best way to prevent them is to change positions often, keep the skin clean and dry (as moisture can exacerbate the sores), and make sure the bed or chair the person is in is softly padded.

No, they are not. They are sores caused by pressure on tissue. They occur on the bed ridden and people in wheelchairs because they are unable to move to restore circulation to the pressure points.

Bed sores are due to a bacterial infection that eats away at flesh.

This happens when people are not able to move/wash themselves properly. The bacteria sits in folds of the skin or where sweat/bed sheets mix.

This is why it is critical to help elderly/disabled people move and wash. It isn't contagious unless there is a strain of bacteria that will make you sick. Just follow the code of conduct for your place of work and you should be fine.

No, a normal bed sore is not contagious. It's just a sore on the surface of the skin due to being bed fast without changing positions for a period of time.

If the patient has been hospitalized frequently he could be infected with MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureous) in their wound. You could become infected with if you don't use good hand washing.

No. Bed sores are caused by a lack of physical movement and is the result of extreme agitation a the skin. They can become infected but are not contagious. Still, it's a good idea to wash your hands after touching them.

NO, I have the remains, scar, of a real deep one on my left heel, I think I use to have one on my bottom, but it went away and they are from laying on a metal table, I think-not sure, and not moving you. They are not a infection.

No they are not contagious at all. Bed sores can occur when a person is bedridden, unconscious, unable to sense pain, or immobile. Bed sores are ulcers that occur on areas of the skin that are under pressure from lying in bed, sitting in a wheelchair, and/or wearing a cast for a prolonged period of time.

A bed sore develops when blood supply to the skin is cut off for more than two to three hours. As the skin dies, the bed sore first starts as a red, painful area, which eventually turns purple. Left untreated, the skin can break open and become infected. A bed sore can become deep, extending into the muscle. Once a bed sore develops, it is often very slow to heal. Bed sores often occur in the buttocks area (on the sacrum or iliac crest), or on the heels of the feet.

Just be very careful in handling elderly people or sick people always wash and scrub your hands well and put gloves on before taking care of anyone..

No, bedsores are not contagious, and they are completely preventable. As a care giver, it makes me nervous that you don't know that.

No, they are not. A "care giver" should know this info and how to take care of bed sores.
