How long does it usually take to get over mono?

Honestly up to 3 months... Sorry...

jesse h
my mom just got over it Therese no cure it takes alto of sleep

I suffered with it for 8 weeks but my cousin was over it in 1 week. Make sure to continue to get plenty of bed rest once you recover so you don't relapse.

There is no set time period. It took 2 months for me to get over it. There was one case that took 6 months that I know of.

my son had mono when he was 16.i took him to 3 different
doctors. all said ,he would always have the virous, but it also
could stay dormant for short or long periods of time. or it could flare up ant time. it really depends on the individual
am mun system.

It can take as long as a year, but usually the worst will be over in a month. The thing is with mono your liver gets enlarged so they say no contact sports or things like that for 6 months after your over it. If your liver is enlarged and you should get hit in it hard or something there is a risk of having it burst and then your in really big trouble! You can even die if your liver bursts. So that's why no contact sports like football or cheer leading. I had Mono about a year ago and it took me a month to get over it. They almost put me in the hospital because my throat was almost closed. I was tired for about 4 months after it. I sleep a lot and would get tired very easy. It was no fun!!

Some good answers already, but some misinformation.

Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. There are many viruses that produce similar symptoms to it, though, so a blood test is necessary to confirm.

At first, you will probably have a difficult time doing much of anything. You will feel extremely weak, have a fever, and probably have a sore throat. These symptoms will generally last anywhere from a week to two weeks. Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or acetominophen (Tylenol) are the best way to combat the fever and sore throat, but there isn't much you can do outside of rest to relieve the fatigue. If your sore throat is bad enough that you cannot eat or have difficulty breathing, your doctor may put you on a steroid to further relieve the swelling.

After the initial 1-2 weeks, you will start to feel better. However, you will still be a bit fatigued and it is important that you avoid strenuous physical activity (especially contact sports) for another month. During this time, it is possible for you to have an enlarged spleen or liver. Excessive physical activity or contact sports can cause liver failure or your spleen to rupture. If you feel intense pain in the upper left portion of your abdomen (ruptured spleen) or if you notice your skin turning yellow (liver failing), it is important that you see your doctor immediately.

So, from the onset of symptoms to full recovery, you are probably looking at 6-8 weeks.

Hope that helps.
