What is a normal resting heart rate? Is 121 high? blood pressure is 129 over 89?

emtd65
Your pulse, if it is 121 resting is much to high. It should be between 70-85. If you are on certain meds. i.e. for asthma maybe a bit higher. Your bp being 121/89 is so so . You want your top number to be no higher then 120 and the lower one should not be over 80.

resting heart rate 68-72 BPM
bp normal below 130 systolic and below 76 diastolic
these are the new guidelines by the American Heart assoc.

120/80

resting pulse is high. resting pulse should be between 60-100. Blodd pressure's top # is good, but lower # is a bit high, as anything over 80 in bottom # is high.

a normal reading is120 over78. but they would not consiter 129 over 89 high it would be in between.

You could call a normal heart rate less than 100 beats per min and over 50 beats per minute. Over is called tachycardia. Some things that cause this to happen include consumption of caffeine, Nicotine, alcohol, or drugs such as over-the-counter medicines, which mimic the effects of the sympathetic nervous system found in nose Drops and cold formula's. Other drugs include Cocaine and amphetamines.
It is generally agreed that in adults a blood pressure is abnormally high when the systolic pressure (top reading)is equal or greater than 140mmHg and the diastolic pressure (bottom reading) is equal or greater than 90mmHg. The condition is called hypertension.

chemps32
normal BP is 120/80. But yours is consider normal in clinical practice. Don't worry too much.

If your systolic blood pressure is more than 140 and diastolic BP is over 100 (eg:140/100) than you'll need to see your doctor and get some BP tablets.

Usually BP will increase as your age increase. If you age are more than 50, it will consider ok if your blood pressure is slightly high than 120/80.

Man usually has slight high BP than woman. if Your BP constantly higher than 140 for more than 3 months you need to see your doctor as you may have blood pressure problem.

cerlandsen11
Blood pressure is in the normal range but you resting bp is high. You should have a doctor look at it.

A normal heart rate is 60-100. 121 is a bit high. A normal blood pressure is 140/80 or less. To bring your numbers back down to where they should be try some aerobic exercise like walking, jogging, or biking.

Terry S
"For resting heart rate:

newborn infants; 100 to 160 beats per minute
children 1 to 10 years; 70 to 120 beats per minute
children over 10 and adults (including seniors); 60 to 100 beats per minute
well-trained athletes; 40 to 60 beats per minute"

These values come from MedlinePlus. Here is the link:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003399.htm

So a resting HR of 121 is a bit high. Your blood pressure also seems a little high. The following is taken from the American Heart Association web site:

"Your blood pressure can change from minute to minute, with changes in posture, exercise or sleeping, but it should normally be less than 120/80 mm Hg for an adult. Blood pressure that stays between 120–139/80–89 is considered prehypertension and above this level (140/90 mm Hg or higher) is considered high (hypertension)."

The link for this information is:

http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=468

You should remember that your BP can change rapidly. Many things can influence your BP from one minute to another. Mood, stress both physical and psychological, any medications you take(including OTC), illness and much more can affect your BP. Several readings over a long period will best determine the true numbers for your BP. A one or two time reading of HBP means little if anything.

Christine needs to do some research on HR. As noted above normal HR for children 10+ and adults is 60-100 BPM, not 70-85 BPM as she states. She is invited to provide documented evidence as I have. Bobby C is just as wrong.

Sincerely,
Terry

A normal resting heart rate for adults is 60-100

Blood pressure: Medical guidelines state that a normal blood pressure for most adults is less than 120/80. Drug treatment is recommended if your blood pressure is at or above 140/90. For people with diabetes or chronic kidney disease, drug treatment is recommended for a blood pressure level of 130/80.

Lowering your blood pressure to less than 140/90 to 120/80 or below may help prevent other serious health problems.

Also, your blood pressure is right on borderline. Check your blood pressure for the next few days, in the morning, at lunch, in the evening. Check your heart rate also morning, lunch, and evening. Record these and show them to your doctor. Also if you have a virus or are sick, very anxious or nervous, or stressed, your blood pressure will tend to run higher and your hear rate will be higher.

Hope this information helps.
