If you go to the right hospital they can bring the heart rate down and keep it down.
If your heart rate gets higher then 150 beats the Dr. will try 2 to 3 different things to bring heart rate down.

This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. It explains why support is so important to a loved one with heart disease. It also offers practical strategies on how to support a loved one while also taking care of yourself.

Been there done that. He's in the best place for now. His treating physician will be more than willing to explain what's going on. He doesn't want you to be so concerned gramps will pick it up when you visit. Good luck to you and prayers for gramps.

Hopefully, your grand father will stabilize quickly and the doctors might want to implant a pacemaker which will help his heart rythum.

I am having a pacemaker implanted on Monday morning.

First be cool. Because u have already mentioned that proper care is being taken by him by visiting cardiologists. When timely action is being taken, medicine would definitely take care.

Well...at least he's getting medical attention.

In older folks, a common cause of rapid heart rate is a condition also termed "Rapid Atrial Fibrillation." However, this does not account for each and every case. You can also have pain old "tachycardia," which is a heart rate above 100 beats per minute, as well as another one called "Supraventricular Tachycardia," where the top chambers of the heart (Atria) are moving faster than the ones on the bottom of the heart (ventricles).

I would say that your grandfather likely has the first problem (atrial fibrillation - "A-Fib"), and they may choose to modify his medications, or he may undergo a treatment for this called "cardiac ablation." This will help to desensitize the heart somewhat so that it will reduce the speed.

When the heart beats too fast, then it doesn't do such a good job at pumping blood. This can cause problems, yes, but it certainly is not an indicator of anyone nearing death or dying.

Not to worry so much....okay?

Hope this helps you.
