Do they sedate you during wisdom teeth removal??
The local dentist only uses anesthesia, so I was wondering if the majority has been sedated during the surgery or not. And did it hurt? Even if you're sedated?

All my wisdom teeth were impacted. Funny thing is my brother had problems with his coming in crooked, then a few weeks later I had pain that started. (He is 3 years older than I am) I went to see an oral surgeon, and was put under for it in the office. Since mine were impacted, I opted to be asleep- I can't imagine being awake and going through the cutting and sawing. I had all of mine removed, and though they were all impacted the procedure was quick. The bad part was at that time no matter what medication I took for pain, it didn't work very well at all, and another script they gave me I had severe side effects so stopped taking it. These days, I think more people opt to be put under, rather than being awake.

I was not sedated, just had local anesthetic. The worst part of it was hearing the crunch as my tooth was being extracted, but it was totally pain free.

Yes - you're put to sleep. It's really fun, try to stay awake as long as you can and the next thing you know you wake up and your totally out of it.

It depends. I had mine out in the chair with novocaine (local) only. It was unpleasant as it felt like they were pulling my toenails out through my mouth, but not painful.

As long as your wisdom teeth are not too badly impacted, you can have them removed this way. Your dentist should advise you. Many people prefer to be under a general anaesthetic and in hospital.

The use of anesthesia is sedation. There are two kinds - conscious sedation and deep sedation. I know when i had all my wisdom teeth pulled I was out. Not a whole lot of pain for me, even in the days following the extraction.

You normally don't get sedated, but if that's what you wish, then find a dentist who does sedation. It doesn't hurt when you get a tooth pulled. You're numb, so you don't feel anything but a lot of pressure. You might have some discomfort after the extraction, but during the procedure you're pain free. Tylenol will relieve the discomfort.

My dentist only gave me novicane unexpectedly, and it hurt like hell to have all four pulled that way. I suggest finding a place that will sedate you!

yes you are sedated. I've been to two oral surgeons. With my wisdom teeth they gave a mild sedative and something that messes with your short term memory so you don't remember the pain second to second. But you still feel the pain. I punched the oral surgeon and had to be restrained. The second surgeon gave me Valium and a Valium type drip along with much novacaine.

It depends on the teeth. I had impacted wisdom teeth so they had to put me to sleep. Either way, the pain afterwards was horrible and no one should have to endure that kind of pain. I'm glad it's over with. Funny thing is my bf at the time, told me it couldn't be that bad but when it came time for his to be removed he cried from the pain...I guess I got the last laugh as he told me I could withstand more pain. Good luck with your procedure.

IF YOU WANT YOU CAN GET A DENTIST TO KNOCK YOU OUT..I DID AND THEY TOOK ALL FOUR OUT AND IT WAS FANTASTIC

I WENT TO SLEEP AND IMMEDIATELY WOKE UP AND IT WAS OVER!!!!!

NOT ALL DENTISTS WILL BUT IT IS WORTH FINDING ONE WHO WILL...JUST SLEEP THRU THE WHOLE THING

They put me in what they called "twilight" with gas. I wasn't aware of a thing..and it didn't hurt. Even after I woke up and the next few days of recovery, it didn't hurt much. (Thanks Vicodin!!)
