Is It Possible To Injure A Rib From Coughing Too Hard?
I have had bronchitis for about 2 weeks straight with a small fever at night. I went to the doctor and he gave me zithromax 3 day dosage pack, advaire, and albuterol (sorry if I killed the spellings). Lately when I cough it brings me pain to the stomache muscle area and ribs. It makes it hard to cough, sneeze, even breath sometimes. I am on my second dose and things seem to be getting better a little more as days go by. I am just worried about the pain, I don't want it to get in the way when I have to go back to school on monday. I tried taking ibuprofin but it doesn't seem to touch it.

I reckon so. I broke a rib by coughing to hard.

That happened to my aunt. She went to the doctor and he gave her some medication...

yes,you can break ribs from coughing too hard. whats worse is you shouldn't splint, tie it up with a scarf/use an abdominal binder or back brace to provide support, relieve pain-cause that will lead to developing walking pneumonia

you just gotta grin and bear it

You can break ribs and puncture lungs from coughing too hard. However, I dont think you should think too much about this, it doesnt happen all that often. You would be more likely to puncture a lung if you had a soft spot somewhere, but if you are a relatively healthy person, try not to worry!

It is possible to inflame a rib joint or maybe even dislocate a rib from too much coughing. If the pain is too much you need to see a doctor for something stronger.

This just happened to my friend today! She's had a terrible cough for weeks and really HACKS loudly. She hurt a rib today (she didn't full-on BREAK it, but she injured it somehow) and it did something to her "disk" too, whatever that means.
The doctor didn't do anything about it -- I mean, you can't put a cast on a rib -- but it might be worth going to see someone anyway.
Feel better!!
