If it is a broken blood vessel, then it will go away on its own in 2-3 weeks. It is called a subconjuncival hemorrhage and it is like a bruise on your eye. They are usually caused by straining (lifting something heavy), coughing or sneezing. If you don't have any itching, watering, change in vision or other symptoms, that is probably what it is.
