Pain in heel/ankles after working out?
i recently started doing aerobics, but last week halfway through i started getting pain in both of my heels sort of at the sides under the ankle bone and had to stop. The next day they were really painfull and tender and kept me awake all night with the pain, so i didn't work out for a week and gave them a rest. Today they felt good so i worked out but within 5 minutes they were hurting again... have i damaged them somehow? how long should i leave it till i workout again?
Additional Details
its also hurts if i touch the area and feels very tender..

Common causes of heel pain are plantar fasciitis and heel spurs.

Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition causing heel pain and in some people, heel spurs. It can also result in arch pain. Plantar Fasciitis is often caused by abnormal pronation of the foot and improper arch support. Contributing factors are weight gain, intense physical activity, jobs that require a lot of walking or standing on hard surfaces, or shoes with poor arch support.

A heel spur is a bony growth on the heel bone (calcaneus). Heel spurs can cause sharp foot pain at the bottom or front of the heel bone. Heel spurs and heel pain can be caused by plantar fasciitis. Continuous pulling of the fascia at the heel bone eventually leads to the development of this painful bony growth on the heel.
Research has found that a combination of proper exercises and arch support by wearing orthotic insoles can provide effective relief for this type of condition.

hi, ok so i am a competitive gymnasti i train 21.5 hrs a week i deal with pain all the time... i wud try icing where it hurts for a while... if it dsnt help go to the doc have an xray or an MRI u cudve damaged the bones/tendons/ligaments in ur ankle/heel this happened to me at gymnastics whenever i did vault or floor it wud hurt so bad and it took a while to heal... also the ligaments/tendons/muscles cud be weak in ur ankles and heels try doing this exercise: ok stand on something like a step with ur toes and the balls of ur feet on the edge of the stair/platform whtever and slowly raise ur self up and down with straight legs (hold on to the railing for balace if u need) and wen u go down make sure u go down all the way so ur feet are flexed and wen u go up make sure u r on ur toes as if u wanted to look over a wall but u were too short so u stand on releve to make urself taller.... basically u r using ur ankles and calf muslces and everything in between to raise urself up and down it will strengthen all the tendons in there GOOD LUCK hope i helped :)

Orthodics
Orthodics undoubtedly provide the best and longest relief for people suffering with heel pain. Orthodics can provide the support necessary to prevent the pain of plantar fascia. Each orthodic can be designed specifically to provide accupressure to exact places on the heel, taking weight shifts and pressure points into consideration.

A podiatrist will take a mold of the foot and analyze the mold to ascertain the location of pressure points where additional support is specifically needed. The mold then gets sent off to an orthodic manufacturer.
Benefits
Wearing orthodics will provide heel pain relief but it may not be instant. While patients are first getting used to the feel of the new orthodics, they may still want to use an anti-inflammatory and ice the heel on occasion. Once the body adjusts to the orthodics, the heel pain will be relieved.

Patients suffering from severe heel pain will find that once the heel pain is relieved, their overall physical health will feel significantly better. Heel pain can wear on a body, causing headaches and fatigue in addition to the serious heel pain. Heel pain relief will be the beginning of whole new feeling of well being.
