which antibiotics can pass BBB ( blood brain barrier ) ??? please i want accurate answer?
i m asking about antibiotics can cross BBB to treat meningitis

Cefotaxime, ceftizoxime, ceftriaxone, cefepime, vancomycin, metronidazole, sulfas and erythromycin are some that quickly come to mind.

The penicillins and other early beta-lactam based antibiotics (methcillin, etc) also cross the blood brain barrier but in a limited fashion.

The BBB can be chemically or physically breached and then addition therapies implemented, but this is fairly rare.

Josh C
In meningitis the BBB is often damaged due to the infection and antibiotics penetrate more readily than they would in a non-infected person.

In meningitis a third or fourth generation cephalosporin is the usual treatment.

penicillin passes the blood brain barrier in a limited fashion.
Is this Bacterial Meningitis, they tend to be the most difficult to treat, And it looks like Ceftriaxone is the most preferred one. Hope you are good with scanning the electron microscope. JAMA has an excellent article on this if you have
Journal capabilities. With use of Ceftriaxone, patients have to be carefully monitored. The trouble with most antibiotics is
they have larger molecules that cannot pass the BBB.
