It sounds like you have Costochondritis. It's basically inflammation of the cartilage that connects the inner part of each rib with the sternum. It tends to hurt more when you inhale and exhale deeply. It should get better in time, if anything gets worse then see your GP.

Take painkillers, unless contradicted, take an NSAID like ibuprofen.

I have this pain... I forget what it is called though. It comes and goes, but it is fairly normal.

I think it is actually precordial catch syndrome like the other person mentioned.

You can get it checked out, but there is no cure and it is not dangerous. it comes and goes in episodes... so it isn't really a constant issue for me.

You probably should get checked at least once, although they won't be able to help if it is PCS, they'll just tell you that you should relax and breathe shallowly until it passes.

There is no known cause or effective treatement though.

muscle spasm, overbreathing, anxiety. only if you have pain in the left arm should you start to be concerned.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone or sternum. The condition causes localized chest pain that you can reproduce by pushing on the cartilage in the front of your ribcage. Costochondritis is a relatively harmless condition and usually goes away without treatment. The cause is usually unknown.

Pleurisy, also known as pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleura,[1] the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs. Among other things, infections are the most common cause of pleurisy.

The inflamed pleural layers rub against each other every time the lungs expand to breathe in air. This can cause sharp pain with breathing

I went to the doctor because i would have sudden, sharp stabbing pains in my chest, thet would fade into a dull aching pain. This is what he diagnosed me with.

However i went to a different doctor later and he diagnosed me with Precordial Catch Syndrome (PCS), also known as Texidor's twinge, is a common cause of chest pain complaints in children and adolescents. It also occurs less frequently in adults. PCS manifests itself as a very intense, sharp pain typically at the left side of the chest which is worse when taking breaths. Patients often think that they are having a heart attack which causes them to panic. This typically lasts 30 seconds to 3 minutes, though some episodes last only a few breaths and in rare cases can last up to 30 minutes. In all cases the pain is resolved quickly and completely.

If it is a reoccuring problem i would say it is PCS

excessive cardio can cause angina or chest pain..too much or too little sodium and pottasium can cause it...bacteria in the blood can cause chest pain..edema around the heart and lungs can cause chest pain..i think thats pretty much what causes chest pains other tha heart problems.

apart from all that have said, I should add stress and common cold as sources of chest pain.

Precordial catch syndrome. Look it up in Wikipedia.

If you feel sharp pain in your left side of your chest, you should definitly get it checked out by a doctor.
