Will metformin (glucophage) clear high blood sugar levels if it's taken after eating to many carbs?
I went out for a celebratory dinner and mindlessly ate a lot of carbohydrates. I feel like hell, my last bsl was 240. If I take my metformin now will it help?

Looks like you are learning. If you are taking Glucophage for Diabetes , the medicine cannot handle your loss of disipline.
Get serious about your diet! Diabetes is a serious problem with lots of serious complications. I assume your doctor has already told you that. He cannot get you under control if you binge eat, no matter what the excuse. Take you Metformin as it was prescribed, no "booster doses" and watch your diet!

Metformin is a systemic drug, it takes about 3 weeks for it to become effective in the system and each increase takes that long to be effective.

No, it will not help to take more Metformin to cover the sins of your night on the town.

You must learn better than to mindlessly eat things you know are not good for you.

The high will wear off. Drink lots of water and for atonement for your sins, eat only green leafy salad and a 3 oz piece of meat for dinner today. These are good for you. Also do several more laps of the track or where ever you exercise!! Got to get those mindless carb pounds back off!!

Note: I no longer celebrate by mindlessly eating. I might have a larger steak with my salad, but not the dessert, rice, potato, and a few other things.

Metformin stimulates the liver to produce reduce glucanogenesis, but you are obviously insulin resistant as well. Insulin would be more effective in lowering your current blood sugar than metformin, which takes longer to act. If you have been prescribed glucophage, you are supposed to be taking it at least once daily, if not twice (depending on formulation), so if you are not taking it regularly, you derive no benefit from it. It is not meant for immediate blood glucose level control.
If your last bgl was 240 mg/dL, take your meds, and see your doctor about what to do when you don't follow your diet.
