How many hours should you spend on the computer?
or looking at any screen?

as far as eye health goes

I'm 11 i'm always on the computer. Today i have been on the computer since 8:00pm to 1:58am.

So Far...............................

I would probably say as many hours as your eyes can handle. Once they get sore or heavy, I would take a break for a while. If they don't, you're fine.

Personally, this kind of thing has never really bothered me. I am visually impaired, but with saying that my eye sight hasn't changed over the many years I've been using my computer... Or at least I have never actually noticed a change, and neither has my eye specialist.

I say till you get tired

its the 21st century! just get eye surgery if it gets bad...
but .. i don't it think its good for you, not just the eye, but everything.
two much time on the computer gives you bags under your eyes, potential sight lost, potential brain cancer, and etc.

if your job relates with computer, give yourself some break maybe 3-5min break every hour.
and if your job doesnt relate to computer, then try not to spend more than 5 hours a day... its really bad for you.

24 hours

Here are a few tips which may help you. The most important thing is efficient lighting.
Make sure you have both an adjustable table and chair so that ergonomic accommodations can be made for each person using the computer
The computer screen should be front and centre so neck turning is unnecessary
The computer screen should be at eye level so little neck movement up or down is necessary
The chair should be adjusted to that forearms and wrists are horizontal to the keyboard and little wrist movement is necessary
The chair should be at a level so that legs are bent in a 90 degree angle with feet flat on the floor

Adequate lighting that does not produce a glare on the screen should be provided

Ensure breaks every twenty minutes

I spend 2 - 6 hours a day. Depending if Im busy or not.
The thing is, even how many hours you spend in front of computer as long as you know how to properly use it(like frequent breaks), there is nothing to be a risk.

Long hours at a computer can harm your eyes, say experts, who advise frequent short breaks every half hour or so to minimise the damage.

Studies have shown that eyestrain and other vision problems can occur in as many as nine out of 10 people using video display terminals at work, said Kerry Beebe, an optometrist and spokesman for the American Optometric Association (AOA).

The most common symptoms are eyestrain, blurred vision, double vision, excessive tears, dry eyes and excessive blinking or squinting. Visual problems can also result in physical problems such as headaches and neck or shoulder pain, reported health portal Health Central.

The radiation put out by a computer screen has nothing to do with these symptoms, although that's a common myth. Any ultra violate radiation from a computer screen is minimal, director of the AOA's clinical care group Jeffrey Weaver said.

"But if you're having eye trouble during or after computer use, you should have your eyes examined," he said.

"Many times people will have a focusing problem or a refractive error where simply wearing glasses while using the computer will take away those symptoms," he said.
