What is Doppler test?
How is it related to diabetes?
Any sort of help regarding the question is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I was given this test to check for PAD (peripheral artery disease) It's painless and quick. They may also do the other test on you but I forget the name of it. They put blood pressure cuffs at 3 or 4 different places on your legs. This also checks for PAD. Diabetics are at high risk for PAD. If they discover you have it they usually put you on a medication such as Plavix to thin the blood. PAD is blockages in the arteries. If the blockage is severe enough, they may suggest putting stents in the arteries. Simple procedure, requires an over night stay at the hospital. Sounds like someone needs to ask questions when they are at the doctors

Doppler test
This is a test to listen to your baby's heartbeat and can be done throughout pregnancy by a doctor or midwife.

it is a test about if you are having a baby or not

Much of the info above is correct but tedious. A doppler is used to hear the blood flow through arteries in the legs. The blood pressure is taken to determine whether there is a blood flow problem and if so whther it is venous or arterial in nature.
Simply, is it that the blood supply to the legs through the arteries is compromised or the blood return from the legs through the veins.
It is vital to know the difference because the treatment is very different.

Commonly used to determine the cause or aetiology of an ulcer. Also used as a maintenence check in people with diabetes as unclontrolled or poorly controlled blood sugars can cause damage.

they listen to the blood passing through your arteries to see if the area has good circulation. the reason they would do this to a diabetic is because diabetes can affect circulation. it doesn't hurt to have it done. it is like a microphone that they pass over the area that they are examining.

A Doppler ultrasound test uses reflected sound waves to evaluate blood as it flows through a blood vessel. It helps doctors evaluate blood flow through the major arteries and veins of the arms, legs, and neck. It can show blocked or reduced blood flow through narrowing in the major arteries of the neck that could cause a stroke. It also can reveal blood clots in leg veins (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT) that could break loose and block blood flow to the lungs (pulmonary embolism). During pregnancy, Doppler ultrasound may be used to look at blood flow in an unborn baby (fetus) to check the health of the fetus.

During Doppler ultrasound, a hand-held instrument (transducer) is passed lightly over the skin above a blood vessel. The transducer sends and receives sound waves that are amplified through a microphone. The sound waves bounce off solid objects, including blood cells. The movement of blood cells causes a change in pitch of the reflected sound waves (called the Doppler effect). If there is no blood flow, the pitch does not change. Information from the reflected sound waves can be processed by a computer to provide graphs or pictures that represent the flow of blood through the blood vessels. These graphs or pictures can be saved for future review or evaluation.

Measure the blood pressure at the ankle and compare it with the pressure in the arm to determine if there is enough blood supply to the foot. This measurement is called the Ankle-Brachial Index and is done with a Doppler machine.

Because the arteries in the ankle may be calcified in diabetes, blood pressure readings at this site is often unreliable. In this situation it is more accurate to measure pressure at the toe.

Once a Doppler test has established that circulation is poor in the leg, further tests such as a Duplex scan or angiogram can be done to evaluate the obstruction of arteries more accurately to determine if surgery is needed to help the vascular ulcer to heal.
