Type 1 Diabetes is caused by the failure of an internal organ -- the pancreas. it USUALLY happens before age 25, but anyone of any age can get Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight. The pancreas does not completely fail, and may in fact be producing the proper amount of insulin but the body can't use it.
type 2 Diabetes is usually found in adults over the age of 25, but even children as young as 9 years old can get diabetes if they are overweight.
Diabetics of ALL types cannot eat sugar (colas, candy, canned fruit juices, sports drinks, energy drinks, candy, cookies, cakes, pies, puddings, syrups, etc)! Since their body is not working right, the sugar does NOT go into the cells, and instead builds up in the blood. This causes much damage to EVERYTHING in the body -- brain, eyes, nerves, heart, lung, liver, kidneys, reproductive organs, even fingers and toes.
If a diabetic patient eats sugar, there is a chance that they will go into a Diabetic Coma. this CAN be fatal.
A diabetic must also eat LESS starches (carbohydrates) like bread, crackers, pasta, cereals, rice, corn, and potatoes. The diabetic needs to eat more fibers (salads, cheerios, whole grain bread, etc), and more protein, especially fish and chicken.
you CANNOT diagnose diabetes from symptoms, nor can you tell if it is Type 1 or Type 2. You MUST have blood tests from the doctor to diagnose diabetes, and to tell which kind it is.
Type 1 Diabetes REQUIRESD insulin shots to stay alive. there is NO other course of action.
Type2 Diabetes can often be controlled by eating a better diet, getting more exercise, and controlling the weight. oral medications will help IF the patient follows their diet plan. if the patiens is "non-compliant" (meaning that they will not follow doctors orders) then this patient must ALSO have insulins hots. |
