I always chewed gum with braces. And Bit O' Honeys and Tootsie Rolls. Every once in awhile a bracket would fall off. I'd blame it on my Orthodontist's incompetence. |

it depends on who your orthodontist is. if he/she says no gum then no. if he/she doesn't say then yes there is a gum that is sugar free that can be used |

Yes, any sugar free gum is chewable with your braces on. Just look for any sugar free gum at your local store. |

Any gum can be chewed with braces.
But the main problem with gum is that some wearers can be careless, and the braces will be broken, costing them lots of $.
Once you get used to the braces, and your mouth kind of start to work with them without scratching, you can chew gum, but have care.
There is no such thing as special gum for braces. If there was, surely the company would be succesful!
Good luck with your braces. |

You can chew gum but it will get stuck. The end result is that you won't keep your teeth that clean and the whole point of braces is to fix your teeth right. I found an orthodontics website that you should check out that gives a lot of answers about braces.

I have braces, and you probably have different wires and braquets than me, but I chew all kinds of gum, it doesn't matter, I just be sure to brish my teeth, but, I do know that there is a kind of gum that is made for people who have braces it is called Spry Gum, and is meant to not stick so much, I think ( I looked it up on the internet). |

NO GUM!!!!! No anything sticky or chewy. If people are telling you they chewed gum all the time.....then they are admitting to you that they totally ignored all the rules the orthodontist gave them! They are also probably not admitting that they had loose bands and broken brackets during their treatment. I say this because, if they are chewing something they should not be chewing (even when they were told not to!) then they probably ate hard, crunchy, and popcorn. Other big NO NO's while wearing braces. Yes, I had braces myself at age 25. I loved gum too.... and jelly beans and starbursts and caramels. But did not eat them for 3 years because I was told not to. I also had an expander, and head gear, elastics and retainers. If you do what your told, the braces go much faster and smoother. The bands put on the back teeth are cemented on with a special material, that can be broken down and become loose if chewing sticky things keeps yanking on it. Unless you know for sure its loose, bacteria gets down inbetween the band and tooth, and can cause decay and staining. Thats why they do not want you to chew gum. Not to be mean. Every time you break something, you are taking the risk of slowing down your treatment by a month or so. Sorry there is no gum for ya sweetie. |

No. Not only will it get all nasty and stuck in your braces, but gum is a disgusting habit. Now is a perfect time to break it. |

No. All gum is gum. It gets stuck in your braces.
I had mine on for two years and I didn't use gum even though I loved it.
It's fine, and it's such a thrill when you get them off and you can have gum again, so basically no you can't. |
