Laura B	People have different opinions on the issue. A lot of people, like me, feel that since a fetus has no consciousness or memory until a certain point, then before that point it is not a "person", just as someone with extensive brain damage who just stares at the ceiling and drools, and has no brain activity, is also not a "person". It's OK to pull the plug on them, and it's OK to remove a fetus, if the woman doesn't choose to be a parent. I for one would never have an abortion, unless my baby had genetic problems that would cause it to die anyway, or my life was in danger, or I was raped. Green is the new Black	This is a very tricky question, and everybody certainly has the right to their own opinion, and I'm not sure a forum like this would be enough to change your mind, unless you don't fully believe that abortion is wrong. The reason I personally believe in abortion, is because scientifically they are just cells, it is not a baby, it has not taken any form resembling a human life and is just the same eggs we always have, merely mixed with sperm. This is just my opinion, especially in the case of rape I believe you should have the choice to abort. Rape is a horrific violation of privacy, and you don't deserve to un wittingly have an unwanted baby. mayg85	Abortion is murder to me, but it depends who you ask. As far as someone who kills a pregnant woman, they can be charged twice if the baby was grown enough to be able to survive outside the womb (somewhere around 7 months.) I believe it's a lesser charge if the baby was younger. I got pregnant when I was in college and it was unplanned. I was scared to death honestly but reading about how the baby already has a heartbeat at around 6 weeks proved to me that she was a living being and I couldn't kill her. She's almost 1 one now and it's been rough sometimes but I'm totally in love. Good luck with your little one. nunya	First of all, the moment the egg is fertilized, the baby has been conceived. Fertilization is also called conception. Second of all, nature and nurture both affect the baby's personality development. Yes, the father may be genetically predisposed to violence, but that does not necessarily mean the child will be, as well. So for you who are taking "sychology" classes, I suggest you take some PSYchology classes, and listen a little better this time. Now then.. In answer to your question... Because some people don't see the value of human life. In your case, it's because they see this pregnancy as something that was forced upon you, rather than you were screwing around and ended up pregnant. Thus, they see this as not being your fault, and you shouldn't have to bear the consequences of the jerk's actions if you don't want to. It could also be because you're 15, and most people think you shouldn't be faced with this gigantic responsibility. In the end, it is your choice. And while you may be financially stable supporting just yourself, what about supporting two people? Can you be stable while doing that? In the end, it is your choice, and I wish you the best, whatever you decide. mike1942f	You should go with your beliefs. However, in many states killing of a pregnant woman is not defined as 2 deaths or 2 murders simply because to do so would get into the mess with abortion. The Supreme Court, in ruling on abortion said that in the first trimester it is a woman's private right, in part because no one knows how to keep alive a first trimester fetus. Catholics believe that a soul inhabits at conception and since that soul has not been baptized, the baby must be saved over the life of the woman, who presumably has. I have to ask why the Church has not managed to come up with an in-womb blessing on the unborn. The historic reason is that a lot of babies died early in life. Now that science has gotten even better at studying fetus development, we are learning some interesting/troubling facts: a large percentage of conceptions are twins and one of them dies and a large number of ordinary conceptions are lost in the first few weeks. If all of these conceptions have souls and are dying without blessing, what is position of the Church. More important in a society of laws - should women be placed under restriction and observation so that if activities such as drinking alcohol, smoking, taking drugs, and over-exercising are causing loss of conceptions, they might be prosecuted? Lisa	People are trying to find ways to justify their own sins, really. You're right. I have a friend who's a single mother and pro-choice, but chose to keep her daughter because the thought of abortion just didn't seem right. I have another friend who was at an abortion clinic as a pregnant teenager and left because she felt she was forced there, and wasn't sure if she wanted to do it. The nurse told her, it's ok if you don't want to and she ran out! Thankfully, she didn't have it of course. There is never a good reason to take a life. I even have a friend of mine with heart problems who gave birth to twins. She had many miscarriages beforehand (your body will do that if you're not healthy enough to have a baby!). Leenie B	Not to totally avoid your original question, but nobody is financially stable at 15. You can't even drive yet! Your PARENTS may be financially stable, but i highly doubt you make enough money to live on your own (pay rent), pay car payments and/or buy a car, buy food, pay for gas, buy clothes and diapers and formula and all of the other things a baby needs. Until you can do all that, you're not financially stable, sorry. Also, you make it sound like adoptive parents are somehow inferior. Just because the baby has your DNA doesn't mean you're going to necessarily be a better parent to it. If you choose to keep it, good for you. But don't ever underestimate the amount of love parents can feel for adopted parents. Many times adopted children are better off than if they were with their real parents. I can tell you that at fifteen you are not financially or emotionally stable enough to have a child. I think it's better to terminate a pregnancy than to bring a child into this world that is not going to be given attention, love, or be taken care of. You said you're fifteen years old. Is that counting the time you were in the womb? I doubt it. How is it murder if it doesn't count as being alive? And if abortions were illegal then women would find other ways to terminate their pregnancies. Dangerous ways that can put the mother's life in danger as well. margie k	It isn't a "baby" for quite some time, which is why abortions are fine if they are done before 9 weeks of pregnancy. At that point you just have a collection of dividing cells, it doesn't resemble a person. Abortion is not wonderful but not everyone in the world feels like you do. And there will always be people who will want to terminate a pregnancy for whatever reason and should be able to have it done safely. Actually, it is better for some to abort rather than bring that child into the world and then abuse it, not everyone feels so magnanamous towards their rapist as you do. Not everyone wants to have the child of someone who raped them. kohlkeizuh	I understand your point about the Nanny situation and your Mommy and Daddy helping out but your child needs YOU! If you are going to have a child, you can't do school & work at the same time, you can't go out with your friends all the time, date boys and so on. My sister has a babysitter and spends a lot of time with her kids, but her kids call the babysitter "Mommy" because she is more of a mother to them than my sister. Day care, nannies, parent's watching your kids, babysitters - that is not parenting, that is letting someone else* parent your children. Just make sure you have done EVERYTHING you wanted to do in life before you are willing to give it up. That includes done with MEN, because it will be very* difficult for you to have a guy interested in anything besides sex for a 15 yr old mother. Movies and so on aren't even* close to the reality of it all. Are you prepared to deal with poopy diapers, barely any time for you to sleep, barely any time for yourself (alone time - getting ready to go somewhere etc.), screams, crying, money money money - then go for it. Just spend some good time saying goodbye to the girl in the mirror because your body physically and mentally will be changed FOREVER. They are probably trying to persuade you to get the abortion because they know they will be the ones who are raising the child while you are finishing school.
