actually, the whole mother thing is very true. my mom got hers at 11 1/2 and so did I, almost on the date (which i found kinda creepy). but i think what you're going through is very normal. i did get discharge before i got my period, though my period followed a few months after. i guess theres a certain age when you start getting discharge (which is kinda like your vagina cleaning itself out) and then a seperate date when you get your period. if you don't get your period for years after, don't feel bad. getting your period is i guess a 'passage into womanhood' but if you're 14, 15 or 16, no one is going to tell you you're not a woman just because you haven't gotten your period. besides, you're not really missing out on much.
be patient, you'll get it soon enough. i knew this one girl that didn't get hers till 17 but i doubt you'll have to wait that long. just remember, everyone is different; there is NO set date for when you HAVE to get your period.
hope this helps.

you should probably get it soon, people get it at different times, different symptoms, it doesnt matter when your mom got it (you have genes other than hers!), everything seems perfectly normal about your situation. you could get it very soon, or not. dont worry! :)

Less than 10% of US girls start to menstruate before 11 years, and 90% of all US girls are menstruating by 13.75 years of age, with a median age of 12.43 years. Ages of menarche range from 9 to 25 with most (>95%) women having their first period before 15, but even later than that is not "abnormal" (1 out of 20 are still later) and there are too many factors to list the reasons why some are earlier and some are later. Among the leading theories are nutrition, body mass and heredity.
Remember: "normal" is not you; you are unique.
Unless you are the 1 in 100,000 that has it exactly at 12.43 years! :-)

Usually you will get your period within about 8 months to a year after your breasts begin to develop. The discharge is also a sign that it may be on it's way.

You should really go to a doctor just to be safe. My aunt had similar problems and ended up having trouble having a baby when she got to her 20's.

Rene M, you really dumb, because half of your questions are about starting your period or "when will i start." So don't expect answers when you can't even answer other respectfully. And learn how to spell does.
Anyway, I know you can have discharge for about 2 years. But you don't HAVE to get it when your mom did. Ask you aunts, grandma's, and other female family members. But you could still get it tomorrow. It does sound like you could start soon, so always be prepared.
I am always thinking I will get it too, but then I don't. So I know what it's like. You could get it anytime. Good luck.

First of all.
You don't want to get your period TRUST ME!!
Well when I first started I got discharge for about 2 years.
I got my period when I was 14.
Not necessarily you could get your period before or after your mom usually 2 years before.
You probably just over thinking getting cramps and headaches also it could be pms, it happens before you get your period.
You should get your period (according to your mom's genetics) around 14 or 15.
Don't rush it!!

No, that discharge last for about 1-2 years, maybe even 3, if you start late.
i went through all of what you mentioned in the years before my period. Random cramps, discharge, headaches and muscle aches. I thought, 'well, anyday now'
but I didn't get it for another 2 years.
My symtoms started when I was about 11, and I got my period when I was 14.
So you'll probably get yours around 15, 16.
Nothing is wrong or abnormal in your patterns, your body is just developing and going through 'test-runs'. Your getting ripe enough to ovulate, so your body is making small preperations, which affect different things, like your muscles and your abdomen area getting 'cramps'. Its all very normal, just give it some time.
Trust me, when it comes, you'll wish it hadn't

when i was 11 i always wondered when i would get my period i asked my mother when she got her period and she said she got hers at around 12/13 she couldn't remember exactly, well anyways i heard an old myth that girls usually get their period around the same time their mothers do
so when i turned 12 i got my period, around the same age my mom did, so maybe you'll get your when your 16

be thankful that you dont have it, because when you do, you wish you didn't. 13 is still young (when it comes to getting your period), and some girls dont get theirs till 17. enjoy not getting the mind numbing cramps, and bleeding for a week.

It is really hard to tell, sounds like you are almost ready. I had the discharge you describe for almost a year. My Mom had her's at 16 but I was 10 and a half and my sister was 14. My daughter was 15. So the therory isnt the greatest. They say girls mature faster now adays. Best bet is to carry something with you discretely at all times if you can.
