Yes! Even if she was an adult, there is no way she could have been in the right frame of mind to stay on a toilet for two years! From the way it sounds the boyfriend wasn't to stable either, to bring her food and take care of her on the toilet for two years!

She was forced onto the seat (as in shoved in so hard she could not get out). There is no other way she could have stayed there for that long. Even with the most severe agoraphobia, the patient at least moves. She had to be completely immobile for several months to have the kind of situation she had. It was abuse, plain and simple.

Absolutely not. I am appauled that they sentenced the boyfriend. They had been together for a very long time. She hadn't left the bathroom for 2 years but was only on the toilet 3 months. I think that my husband is a man that tries to please so much that he too would be confused by my behaviour and be lenient to seek help in such an embarrassing situation. From what I've heard they were both mentally ill. I think he was doing the best he knew how for her, by abiding by her wishes, bringing her food, etc. He did what she said. Even the police had a hard time getting her out of the bathroom because she absolutely did not want to leave! I think it's horribly unfair to hold the boyfriend accountable for her decisions.

I heard about this too, and I think that it's totally ridiculous, her boyfriend even brought her food and water. And HE is the one getting charged for caring for his crazy girl. This legal system is messed up these days, I don't think they realize that she was the one who wanted to sit on the toilet.
I believe this charge will be dropped in the end if the trials aren't already over, it's absolutely ridiculous. and that girl is crazy.

I think they're both screwed in the head.
She's nuts for doing it and he's nuts for not getting her help.
So put them both on some sort of medication.

She is an adult, yes, but she was clearly not in a fit state of mind and she was reliant on the boyfriend to take care of her. The fact that he waited so long to get her help was negligent.

I've heard about this story. It's tragic, I guess. I would hope my significant other would never allow this to happen. She was obviously obese before this one day when she just decided to stay in the bathroom... and then it just continued. I think it may be criminal if her boyfriend hid the situation, and prevented her from getting help.

i read that article and YES! Obviously she had a mental condition and he shouldn't have watched her rott away rather putting her in a home would have been appropriate. Mistreatment and if you think its not how would you feel stuck to a toilet not mentally well enough to leave.

I don't necessarily agree with the idea that the boyfriend should be charged, but I do see the reasoning behind it. He COULD have called someone rather than catering to her obvious disorder and letting it go untreated.

When I heard about it on the news, I could not understand how it could be possible... until I watched a brief news story that explained that both she and her boyfriend are mentally challenged.

he shouldn't be charged because it was her decision and he didn't do anything to harm her. I think that he is an idiot for not persuading her to get off the toilet nor leaving her, but none of that stuff is illegal. So no i don't think he should be charged.

Well if she has a mental problem or if she has gotten to the point that this man mentally controlled her then, yes, I would blame her boyfriend for mistreatment. There are alot of women out there that let men control them, even to the point of abuse.

I don't think he should have been charged with anything. Like you said she was a grown adult and if she didn't want to get off the toilet that's her problem!
Plus from what I hear he asked her to please get off and he also fed her everyday soooo I don't know why he's being charged for anything!

Wasn't her boyfriend the one who called in for someone to help?
That's not mistreatment.
I don't know why she was on the toilet for 2 years though - anyone know?

charging him is stupid.
I wouldn't have let her stay in the bathroom, myself. But I don't see the crime if one adult lets another do something weird, like not leave the bathroom.

Omg yeah i heard of that! Although i DONT know the whole entire story, and i'm not like a lawyer or anything, I don't think its right to charge her boyfriend. Unless she has a mental disability, she can make choices and obviously it was her choice to stay on the pot! lol!! that story is kinda funny btw

it's pretty ridiculous
but like
at what point do you not find it ridiculous that your girlfriend refuses to leave the bathroom
i mean maybe a few days
even that's pushing it
but TWO YEARS?
like it's not his fault
but seriously
he should've done something.

Clearly she was disturbed. I would think that after a few days (or even if he gave it a week or two) he should have called for help. He was negligent

I do know this story. The woman was ill and her boyfriend was her caregiver. Why else would they be charging him? If she was capable of taking care of herself then he wouldnt get anyhting. She had bedsores that opened and seeped and thats how the seat got stuck to her. Poor woman. If her boyfriend could'nt have handled it, he should have gotten help a long time ago, like 2 yrs ago.
