Hi, i was on the combined pill with the lowest form of oestrogen and progetrone in as i have migranes, the thing is i put on loads of weight every time i started a new pack i put on more weight or so it seemed, I went back to the nurse and told her my problems and she recommended Cerazette, with no oestrogen that makes you put on weight, it is similar to the pop but you have 12 hours like the combined pill other than only 3 hours like the pop. You take cerazette continuously and for most women they dont have a period, i dont have a period if i take cerazette its not harmful and it is a bounus. The thing is i found with the pill it increases your appetite so you feel hungry so you over eat or eat when you dont need to, i dont get this on Cerazette so i am able to control my eating habits, with the other pill i couldnt. There is also the injection, ive heard that this is quite good but the thing is that if you have a reaction with it, the side effect will last until it gets out of your system, but with the pill it stops as soon as you stop taking it. The injection can either make you put on weight or lose it, but the injection is suppose to be good. I would deffinately go back and have a word and maybe mention Cerazette. There are loads of different ones they can give you so dont be fobbed off it they tell you there giving you the lowest dosage they can anyway and if the give you a new pill it wont make a difference, a nurse said this to me once, and i was stuck putting on weight for a year, until i went back to come off the pill was when another nurse told me about other pill alternatives. I hope you get one right for you.

diaphragm..it also protects your cervix. i used it even with condoms just in case. you and your partner can't feel it and you don't mess up your body with chemicals. Doctors wish more women would use this and i'm surprised that no-one else has mentioned it

Being a school teacher is the best contraception known to exist. Other than that, there is the depo shot and IUD's are effective altho' american doctors are terrified of all of them due to just one of them creatuing problems, that being the dalcon shield. Thank you trial lawyers of america.

Try an IUD. That's what I have and its worked great. I had it put in after I had my last kid in 1998. They have 5 and 10 years IUDs. Its inserted into your cervix. I have a Copper one which gives no hormones. I've had it for 8 years and its 99.9% effective. Talk to your doctor.

Every time I come across this sort of question, i always advice no Depo-Provera injection as almost everyone I know has had problems with it.
I have previously used the mirena coil and after trying the depo and the pill I am going to have it fitted when I get my next period which might be as early as 2moro. Read as much as you can about different forms of contraception and then make up your mind. all d best gal.

i had the coil fitted cause i was crap at taking the pill. needs changing every 5 years at least. when you have it fitted its a little more uncomfortable than a smear but not unbearable. then thats it you dont have to think about it.

Fertility Awareness Method, it's highly effective as birth control, it can also be used to assist in conception – it also goes so far as to help you choose the sex of your baby, tells you when you are pregnant before most home pregnancy tests, and tells you if you have any reproductive problems – it will also help you identify other sexual health problems such as vaginal infections.
It takes a while to learn before you can use it, but once you have learned how to do it then it stays with you for life, it is also cheap in that all you need to pay for is a thermometer, which you can get from £ stores, you may also need to pay for a book [Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler] and if you have a teacher a small donation may be polite to give.
Basically it uses scientific methods to determine exactly when you are fertile and when you are not within your cycle (you're only fertile around 30% of your cycle), it involves taking basal body temperature daily, as well as making observations of cervical mucus and cervical position. Fertility Awareness Method [FAM] also involves the use of barrier methods during your fertile days – as apposed to Natural Family Planning which is essentially the same idea, however those using NFP practice abstinence during fertile days.
http://www.tcoyf.com
http://www.28-days.com
I used FAM when I came off the pill and loved it, no more of a fuss than taking a pill every day and it taught me a lot about my body - not just my cycles but how my cycles related to my migraines, etc.
It gave me a lot more control over my sexual health not just to know what was going on myself but to determine my care when it came to sexual health issues and doctors, many of whom are ignorant and can be shown up as such when confronted with FAM.
I actually went on to teach some of the gynaecologists about FAM in the local family planning clinics a few years ago – how many people can do that as a result of their birth control choices?
