Well, I am also very active and I prefer tampons. They will not cause infection unless you don't change one for 4 hours. They are definitely not uncomfortable either. You can't hardy feel them. Now pads are a whole different story. Yes, you can leave them in for longer, but they are extremely uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend them for an active girl.
I hope this helps you!!!! : P

pads are like wet diaper sponges when you think about it. do you really want to be sitting in that all day?
tampons are great-- you cant even feel them, if properly put in.. just make sure you change them every 4-8 hours. 8 hours is your max... never go over that! [you might get Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)]. so yes. if you are really active, youll find out for yourself that tampons are so much more comfortable.
you should research it for more info

If you are comfortable with using a tampon rather than pad go for it! If inserted properly you will not feel them at all! Just make sure you change them every few hours and at night (to prevent TSS toxic shock syndrome). It all just depends on what you feel you are comfortable using! I prefer using tampons myself. They are less messy, more comfortable, and less smelly/nasty! Make sure you use the right ones though. If you have a heavy flow, use heavy, if it's light or normal use regular! Anytime you insert a tampon and it is uncomfortable, take it out and do it over. . . they are never supposed to feel uncomfortable! it might take you a few times if you never have worn one before. Dont feel discouraged if you dont get it the first few times.

You really should go by how heavy your flow is. There's actually something called the Diva Cup. It's a small rubber cup that you can get at amazon.com. It costs about $30 but you keep it for life. You can wear it for up to 12 hours without emptying it and there aren't any leaks. I highly recommend it, especially if you are active.

I'm very active myself and i'm 11 and i use a tampon because it doesn't feel like i'm running in a diaper all day. But depending on what tampon you use, it may be uncomfortabler when you first try it on! But it's your choice whatever you think is the best for you! :)

They both have pros & cons. The thing that you need to remember is that if you choose tampons, you cannot use them at night while you sleep & you have to be diligent about changing them often. My sister ended up with something called toxic shock syndrome. It is a very serious disease that can result from tampon use. Use only the absorbancy that you need & as I said earlier, change them often.

For an active girl use a tampon, less chance of leaks. It wont cause you discomfort if you use the right size and insert it properly. If it is your first time using a tampon use a small/junior size. Don't leave the tampon in for more than 4 hours and sleep and lounge around the house in a pad and you will be just fin.

Check out this: http://www.divacup.com/
It is a menstrual cup. I have been using one for over a year now and I LOVE it. You can keep it in for over 8 hours (unlike tampons), and it doesn't leave you feeling gross, sticky, or soggy (unlike pads). Plus, it is reusable, so it is MUCH cheaper and MUCH more environmental-friendly than either tampons or pads. You don't have to worry about carrying around supplies in your purse, and it is a lot healthier -- since it's made of silicone, it doesn't dry out your vaginal area like tampons or pads do. I have also noticed that my cramps are not nearly as bad now that I use it as opposed to when I was using tampons or pads.
It comes with a guarantee, so if you don't like it, you can send it back for a full refund. I HIGHLY recommend it, especially for active people who want to be able to swim or do other physical activities while "on the rag."
Good luck!

if you're active, use a tampon. pads arent super reliable when you move around. dont worry too much about TSS. as long as you change your tampon you'll be fine. TSS is VERY rare.

TAMPAX PEARLS (just don't keep them in too long and super absorbent tampons have a higher risk. read the paper that comes in the box to see how many hours to keep it is healthy) I LUV THEM

Tampons don't usually cause any problems, just be sure to change them frequently. I only use tampons and change every time I use the rest room. I don't like pads.

Well if you're active I'd say a tampon (and a tampon is really your only choice if you swim or are in water). But be sure that you know what you're doing and how to use it properly. Good luck!

I used pads as a teen and was miserable. Since I started using tampons, periods don't even bother me. They make life MUCH simpler and they're not uncomfortable at all. Once you learn how to put them in you'll never go back to pad.

I prefer tampons myself, because of the fact that I'm very active myself... It is not uncomfortable if you apply it correctly, just read the package instructions and you should be fine... It is very rare to get an infection from using tampons now-n-days.. rule of thumb to always remember... (even if you choose to wear pads) change every 3-4 hours or every time you use the restroom... ~Princess
