(Tampon Question)....help!!!?
I'm 12...I will be 13 in 3 months....I'm very very very athletic and I hate pads!!
I don't understand how to use the applicator on a tampon...it makes no sense..It looks as though it should make it easier but the o.b tampons don't have an applicator so I don't think it's a necessity but as I said before it seems as though it makes it easier...but I tried to do it with an applicator and I know that you have to twist it 2 directions(cardboard) but it didn't go in.....I really want to use them I'm just oblivious about how to get them in correctly and comfortably..help!!

Melanie ♥ had the best answer. u can also put a little Vaseline on the tip or some baby lotion to make it more easy to slide in also. u need to toss the cardboard ones because they are really horrible. especially for a beginner. you can also try tampax pearl. those are what i used for the first time and i didnt have any problems.

Most boxes of Tampons have instructions in the box of how to properly insert.

You shouldn't have to twist anything you need to insert and push up on the applicator (cardboard).

I prefer OB because there is not applicator or paper to dispose of...you just insert and push upwards with your finger...

It may seem scary or weird but it really is very easy and you won't even know it is there. Many women (and girls) choose to do this sitting on the toilet...it is very easy and convienent.

Good Luck,

:o)

seriously, buy the plastic tampons, they r way more comfortable and easier to put in and pull out. you just put it up there and push in on the little tube and thats it

I'm not sure what you've used but the ones I've used, you just have to insert and then push down on the applicator (kind of the same way a syringe works ...sorry scary example) But I only use the OB because it less mess and easier to stash in a purse or in my pocket.

Hey, I'm an adult and I have a hard time using a tampon so don't feel badly. Every time I want to use one, I have to read the directions. I dont' like the idea of tampons so I use them only if I really really really really want to go swimming. Here are some tips.

1. Try the "slim fit" ones. They are skinny and they have the applicator.
2. Try various positions when you are trying to insert it. For example, standing up may work, lying down on your back may work. Or standing up with one leg up on a chair or something. Find the way that works for you. Lying down on my back works for me.
3. It may seem like you cannot for the life of you get it to go in the right way. Don't give up though. If it gets to be too much, throw the one you are trying and get a new one and start over.
4. The playtex ones I have don't require you to twist it in 2 directions. The ones I have have 3 parts, the tampon itself, the plunger part and the plastic thingie covering the tampon.
Once you get the tampon is the right place, you keep moving it into the vagina while holding with your fingers where the the plastic thing has those finger grippie things. Once you get it up to the finger grippies, you use your other hand to push the plunger up - this moves the actualy tampon into the vagina. If you are successful, the plastic thingie with the grippies will fall into your hands and you'll see nothing but a string hanging from your body. If it's in right, you won't feel much at all.
Good luck. It takes practice. I don't like it, but I can do it if I put my mind to it.

the easiest to use is tampax pearl because its plastic and slides in easily. all you have to do it hold the applicator and push it up there, then you push the part that sticks out the bottom and it pushes the tampon up there. you wont feel it unless its not up far enough.

if you use one without an applicator, its more difficult but you put your finger on the bottom where the string comes out and you simply push it up.

hope i helped and good luck!!

but tampax sport, they have an applicator (plastic) you hum just put like the tip of the applicator in and push up the tampon with your thumb and it should slide right in, that sounds really awkward but thats pretty much how it works lol you cant even feel it, and its for active girls so it protects really good lol

Use a plastic applicator. They don't hurt as much.

Then, just slip it in a ways and push the part on the end up until the tampon is in.

If it hurts or feels uncomfortable, take it out and try again.

It may take practice to get it right.

Hope this helps.

idk what you're talking about with twisting. ha :]

there should be directions in the box they came in.
you stick one side in your va-J-J ha and then you hold it there and push the other half up so it will push the tampon inside you

you should really use plastic ones like
tampax pearl
its soo much easier. :]

good luck

you have to like push it in then pull the whole thing out and the tampon will be left. the non applicator ones are easier though, just use those.

It might be easier to ask your mother or another trusted adult for help first but i can understand how that can be embarrasing. so before you insert the applicater first push it in and then out then insert it and i will make it easier becuase it will be loose. (:

use tampax pearl because cardboard is more painful. You insert the whole applicator in you then push the thin cylinder up so that it becomes equal with the large cylinder. Once it has pushed all the way up into the larger cylinder pull the applicator out and throw the plastic applicator into the trash. The woven string from the tampon should be hanging out of you so you can pull it out the next time you go to the bathroom. Only wear for the most 8 hours.

First ask somone you know and trust who uses tampons. Your mom? An aunt? A friend? Purchase tampons that are "light" not Super size or OB's (do not attempt to use OB's they are difficult to use for us adults) because they have no applicators - these are not practical for you just yet. When you first use a tampon it will feel a little foreign to you but don't attempt to put them in when you don't have much of a menstrual flow or else they may be dry and will pinch you. Try to put a little vaseline on the end of the tampon if it seems dry. You should not have to twist the applicator really just put it in as far as you can and push the end pulling back the top of the applicator. When I was your age (I started about 16) my girlfriend showed me how to put them in - so don't be afraid because once you master it - believe me - it is so worth it. :)

well i think you should stick with pads you are kind of young but if you need help you should ask your mom or another trusted female adult that you know becasue its hard to explain with out showing you with the tampon how it works and they boc comes with inserts to help you put it in correctly dotn do it unless you know what you are doing good luck

to be honest with you, tampons that AREN'T cardboard are the easiest to go in. You need to by tampons that are PLASTIC. o.b is not a good brand to you either. o.b is probably the hardest brand to even use because all it is, is the cotton and it hurts, i don't know how anyone can even use them. i highly recommend you use playtex, they are great.

I wouldn't try ob tampons starting out. Plastic applicators are easier to insert so I would suggest buying them. You need to relax, don't shove it in, just let it glide and keep yourself calm. Every box comes with a set of easy directions. Don't worry yourself, you'll get it with a couple of practices. good luck :}

buy some Playtex Gentle Glide. they're not cardboard and they're A LOT easier to use. The applicator slides right in but if you have trouble get some regular KY Jelly and put some on the applicator and that should make it slide in easier. oh and also if this is your first time don't get the Super just get the Regular size

You just push the applicator up. You might also want to ask your mom. It might seem embarassing, but you should.

i have never used the cardboard ones...and the O.B ones without an applicator are terrible! you've just been choosing the wrong ones =]
i recommend you use the tampax plastic ones. They're small, and all you have to do is pull it out, insert it, and push it in. It takes some practice but you'll get it =]

Make sure you push it in towards your stomache...
And if you're too dry when you try to put one in (light flow) it'll hurt a bit, sometimes.

When you first start using tampons get a box of Playtex SlimFits. They are made specifically for young teens and first-time tampon users. They have a plastic applicater for easier insertion, a rounded tip for comfort, and they are the smallest and most slender tampons on the market (They're about the width of your pinky finger!). To insert the tampon, use your dominant hand and put your thumb and middle finger on the finger-grips. Use your other hand to spread apart the lips/labia of the vulva and hold them open while you're inserting your tampon. Now get into a comfy position for insertion: you can sit down on the toilet, squat over the toilet, or you can stand up with one leg propped up on the toilet. Do whichever is easiest for you. Remember to relax your muscles to make insertion more comfortable and easier. If you're nervous your muscles will tense up and make insertion really difficult. When you're ready to insert, you should use the tip of the applicater and hold it at your vaginal opening. Then, gently push the applicater inside of your vagina while angling the tampon a little bit upwards, and then to the back towards your tailbone. Keep pushing the tampon in until the finger-grips are right outside of your vagina. After that, put your pointer finger on the skinny plunger and push it into the bigger applicater which is already inside of your vagina. Once the skinny plunger is pushed in completely, you can grab the finger-grips and pull out the applicater and toss it in the trashcan. The string will be left hanging outside of your body, so you can tuck that into your underwear. You should never feel any pain while using a tampon, when inserted correctly you shouldn't be able to feel the tampon at all. By the way, you should type your question into the Yahoo Answers search bar BEFORE posting your question - this question has been answered many times before. Anyways, after using tampons for 2 or 3 years, I strongly recommend switching to a menstrual cup because they are healthier, cheaper, more reliable, stronger protection, no risk of TSS, and are better for our environment. Best of luck!

If you're young and new to tampons, it's probably best to use a plastic applicator tampon that comes in slim sizes. Playtex Gentle Glide is probably the best brand on the market; it has slim sizes as well as athletic sizes, and they open 360 degrees instead of width-wise.

Before inserting, check to make sure the string is attached. Pull lightly on the string; if the cotton tampon moves inside the applicator, then the string is attached. Hold the applicator by the ribbed portion (in the middle of the tampon) and carefully slide it in to your vagina. Push the plunger all the way to the end to remove the tampon from the plunger; you may have to tilt it a bit to get a comfortable position. Carefully remove the applicator. If inserted correctly, you should not feel the tampon.

Because you are so young, I would recommend asking your mother about the issue, like other users suggested, and checking up on tampon websites. Also, most boxes of tampons come with instructions that include diagrams.

Melanie's answer is also very good; I used Playtex Slimfits when I first started using tampons in my mid-teens. Best of luck to you!
