You shouldn't wear a pad in the water. Wear a tampon.
Your friend is almost right. When you are in the water it kind slows down the flow. Noone will be able to see it in the water. BUT when you get out I would go and put something on right away. People would be more likely to see your pad then the blood.

it does stop the bleeding just like when your in the shower its really water not just chlorine but to be on the safe side where a tampon the first summer i had my period it was tough because i didnt want to wear a tampon so i just wore one for about a fourth of my period to get used to it and then i gradually worked my way up to the full period i would recomend not wearing a pad to go swimming because some times it might show and it also might desenegrate or tear and then there will be peices of a pad in the pool a tampon is tough to get used to but eventually you are going to have to wear one

Well, I have personally tried swimming with a pad on, but I wouldn't suggest it. Being in the water sometimes stops bleeding, but everyone is different. When you swim with a pad on, it kind of feels like you're wearing a diaper... not kidding. Hope I can help!

I've heard that bleeding stops in the pool. Then again, that is not a risk I would want to take...you never know. Wearing a pad would be totally pointless either way because it will probably just soak up with water or fall out.
I think you should learn to use tampons or just stay out of the water when you're going to get/have your period.

chlorine doesn't stop the bleeding.the pressure does.and as soon at you get out you'll bleed.and a pad, can sometimes fall out, and it gets sapped up by all the water.
it's not a pretty sight.

I actually tried this when I was 12. The pad was visible, it got soaked, and fell apart in the water. There were little pieces of cotton floating all around me and it was so embarrassing. For some reason my period does nearly stop when I am swimming, don't count on this though, as it is very unreliable. I have tried swimming without protection as well, and that went badly too.
Have you considered using a tampon? If you are inexperienced using them you could try the junior or light size with a plastic applicator. The instructions, with illustrations is included. I think that you will have an embarrassing incident if you swim with a pad or without protection.

Oh please, really THINK about it for a minute.
A PAD, in WATER. do you really think it will soak up ONLY BLOOD?
It will act like a diaper and soak up your pad before the blood even gets to the pad.
TAMPONS or moon/diva cup, or no swimming or water sports, its as simple as that, as you will contaminate the pool with your flow.
BTW you WILL bleed into the water, what happens when people think it stops or slows down is, it gets dispersed into the water quickly. Mind you you WILL bleed into the pool and contaminate it.

You cannot, I repeat, cannot go in water wearing a pad. Here is a tip: Stop listening to your friend. She/he is an IDIOT. A pad is cotton/fabric. Cotton absorbs water, just like it absorbs blood. Not only will it swell up, it will detach from your bikini (because the glue on the back won't hold underwater either!) and float off! This is common sense, you need to get smarter friends!
Just wear a tampon or a diva cup.

If you go swimming with a pad on, it will become saturated with water and (depending on the pad) will deteriorate and fall apart, or just absorb as much water as it can and "blow up" from the superabsorbant gel inside and make a large bulge in your swimsuit bottom. Chlorine does NOT stop bleeding (no idea how your friend got this idea). Your period will not turn pool water red because the amount of your period is so small compared to the amount of water in the pool. You need to wear a tampon when your swim during your period. Don't even think about wearing a pad - it would be an embarrassing huge mess.

well sometimes the pad falls out which isnt good.
you can go without one if you go directly in the water.
but where a liner or something and take it out before you go in the water.

Well, the truth is...that your period still happens, even thought you may be in the water! It WiLL turn the water red. It makes it even worse if you go in the water with your pad on!! Dont do it, becuase Im sure that it will hang down and all the blood will just run down your leg! It will feel like wearing a diaper on your but, a very big, wet diaper! So, hope that helps =]

The pads swells up and is really horrible to look at...while in the water, the hydrostatic pressure (pressure exerted from the water) is higher than the pressure of the blood flow, but when you get out, it's no longer there and your pads all wet and can't catch anything, so if you are a heavy bleeder, it may run down your leg...eww...use a tampon

No, do not go swimming in a pad. It will probably fall apart, or fall out of your bathing suit, and soak up all the nasty stuff in the pool. That's not very sanitary. Use a tampon.

This isn't true. Even though when you are in water, your flow is lighter it does not completly stop. If you wear a pad in the pool, it will fill up with water, and start to fall apart, just like a babies diaper.
This is the reason woman wear tampons in the pool. I wouldn't suggest it.
