it's normal. If you go to public school that may be it. They put growth hormones in the milk so girls are starting earlier.

not odd at all.
most women start their period early now.
I did, and so did most of my friends.
it also depends on how active you are...
it varies.

well I've heard that because of all the hormones they putting in food nowadays, it's speeding up the time when girls become "women" are when they start to mature as my aunt says. I don't think it's true but based on my experience most of my friends and me had ours at age 12 and 13 but 10 is normal I think.

With all the hormones in things like milk, is the first thing that comes to mind, these days, its very common. Emotional problems i would figure would stem from being embarrassed or misinformed.

I had heard that people are going through puberty at younger and younger ages because of the hormones put in meat products. Like beef, chicken... ect. Thats why it is good to buy organic foods.

it can happen at any time. The youngest to get periods are around 8 years old, and the oldest people are probably 14.

I've read that the average age is 12. But it's normal for it to happen between 9 - 16.
I don't know if it means anything, but my cousin started at 10 and she is completely fine, emotionally. lol.

10 is an average age. If you believe in science, many psychologists and anthropologists believe environment may also have something to do with it. Many girl with step-fathers or no fathers hit puberty sooner. Some people believe because of the hormones we put in the foods, it causes the onset of puberty as well. Its all matters of debate and further research, but 10 does happen to be the average of the norm right now.

well all girls are different, its ok, a lot of wemon get it really early because of the hormones that they put into meat these days, the hormones also give large breasts at an early age too, so if you have thoes then you are just getting it early, that can have huge emotional repercusions, because a period ages your body horribly, so thats why its best to always put baby oil on everyhting and always use lotion every day:) i hope that i helped:) good luck:)

So, what else in new? Keep on reading and learning, and most of all thinking. Think about all the people who do not care if you started you period, but know that you are now a baby making machine.

Every generation of girls is starting menstruation earlier and earlier-- this is due to the hormones that are fed to the chickens and beef that we eat, along with the milk we give our children...this has been proven medically...so it is more the norm than we realize. I'm not sure if she's in 5th grade but that was the grade my daughters were taught sex education. If your daughter is too young or hasn't had these classes, I would suggest that you read up on the "lightest" explanation of this phenomenon to give your daughter--and when she has the sex talk in school she will at least be not shocked and aware of what's going on with her body. Emotion repercussions? Yes, she is no longer a little girl who can go swimming whenever she wants...last I checked, I don't think they make tampons small enough for littler girls, but I may be wrong....don't hesitate to talk to her pediatrician about this--obviously not when she's in the room...and he may want to run a blood test to check her hormone levels to make sure everything is all right.

In this day and age, it's not uncommon. The average age range is between nine and fourteen. You'll be fine.

i got mine at age 11. With the steroids that are put in cows and bulls to help them grow stronger and bigger, those hormones get passed onto children in the cows milk and the beef they consume. These growth hormones are causing kids to grow faster and bigger, to develop a lot earlier in life than traditionally. And some kids are just early bloomers. I certainly was. Its not unusual, don't worry.

No its not abnormal. I got my period when I was 11
and TRUST me this usually means that the girl will develop VERYYY quickly.
To explain, when I was in 4th/5th grade I looked exactley like a woman. A woman with 34B boobs. haha A couple years later I got my period and CONTINUED developing.
I look older than what I actually am.

lots of emotional repercusions because starting that early will mean developing that much earlier and it can/will have a big emotional impact on some girls that age.

I started at nine, can you believe that? I was pissed too. I still wanted to play barbie dolls and climb trees and ride my bike and here my mama is telling me that I am a woman now. What? I'm nine, lady!! It took some adjusting but eventually I accepted it, but only because I had to and could do nothing about it. Of course, along with a period came everything else like boobs, big ones too. I was a full c cup by ninth grade which caused it's own problems but 15 years later I love being a woman and I love my big boobs.
