I'm sorry, but that's definitely something you should keep to yourself and not tell like the whole world... It's better to tell your mum then us. |

They have pads designed for over night usage. Discomfort is often associated with the period. If the pad itself is adding to the discomfort, you should consider trying different ones to find one you like. And as much as you don't like the idea, you should probably talk to your mom about the issues. She is going to be the most sympathetic (probably) and will do what she can to help you through this time in your life when so many changes are occuring. |

ya ur meant to wear one but if u really want you can use a tampon (it hurts like hell in bed) and if you want you can even cut the side off the pad the make sure its sticky on the bottom its more comfortable! and make sure if you need too buy smaller pads!!! |

yeah I hated wearing pads at night because they become all twisted, or stick to a place that hurts. I always wear a tampon at night. In fact, the only time I wear a napkin is when my period is light, and almost over. You just need some moisture to be able to insert the tampon properly. If there is a light flow, it is harder to insert. Just use a very small or junior sized tampon at night, and in the morning put in a larger one for your heavier flow. I can't stand wearing any clothing when I sleep, so underwear with a pad was never an option. Oh, and by the way, wearing a tampon at night is not dangerous. Toxic shock syndrome is caused by wearing tampons that cut off the air to your insides there. Tampax are not as bad as playtex. That is why I say, if you wear a smaller tampon at night, it lets your body breathe, and you will not have any issues. Although, if you slept for twelve hours, and used the largest most constricting tampon you could find, you might get this deadly infection. I have always worn tampons at night, and I have had my period for 33 years, so I am speaking from experience. |

Yes you are definitely meant to wear one at night. I know it can be uncomfortable but you need to get used to it im afraid. Some brands of pads are more comfortable than others so maybe you should try a few different ones and see which you find more comfortable. Maybe you were using one that was too thick for you? If you have a light flow then you're lucky because you will be able to wear thinner and more comfortable pads. If it is still a really big problem for you, you should try using tampons as you cant feel them at all. However it is bad for you if you use tampons too often because you can get infections - i wear them on occassions like if im on holiday or if im at a party. Don't be afraid of using them by the way, because there are a rumors of how they come out or leak or get stuck etc. but it is seriously nothing to worry about, they can't get stuck because you can just put them out even without the string if you have to - ive never had any problems with them in all the time ive used them also, dont be afraid to ask your mum anything. im not close with my mum and it was a bit awkward but periods are normal and no big deal |

Yes, you're supposed to wear pads at night, unless you want blood all over your bed. I find that kotex is a really good brand, and is really comfortable at night. You'll get used to it soon, don't worry. And whatever you do, try not to wear a tampon to bed. A tampon can be worn at night if you sleep less than 8 hours. Tampons must be changed every 4 to 8 hours. If you sleep more than 8 hours, then use a pad for the time that you are asleep. -http://www.beinggirl.com/en_US/questiondetail.jsp?ContentId=ASK61 |

I like Stayfree's ultra thin overnight pads with wings. I like tampons even more, but I'm guessing you haven't tried them yet--they're tricky to put in when you're just starting out, but worth it! But you HAVE to wear either a pad or a tampon, because otherwise you'll make a mess all over your underwear and pajama pants. |

This sounds superbly wierd, but if pads are annoying and you're afraid you might sleep in and get TSS from tampons, wear a pantiliner (which you can't feel since it's very thin) and put a super plus tampon in between the lips of your vagina, so it soaks up the blood as it leaves but isn't IN your vagina so you won't get TSS. I do it all the time and it isn't uncomfortable or scary to me. Or you could wear a tampon and set the alarm to wake up in 7 hours, put a new one in and go back to sleep and change it when you wake up again. |

i know tellin ur mom will be awkward but dont make the same mistake i did please please please!!! i was soooo scared to tell her beacuse i thought we werent close enough and throughout my first period i was so stressed just to find enough pads to last me! Its still early and u can take the smart and easy path!!! just TELL her. i told her while she was on her bed trying to fall asleep. she's very quiet then and doesnt overreact or act strange. Find a time like that, and just tell her. She will organize u with all the pads u need. something like not having pads is definitely not stress u need. also i know keeping ur period a secret is depressing. tell her. a whole weight will be lifted off ur shoulders. u dont need to discuss any details with her or anything, shell just be happy u told her, shell buy u ur stuff and leave u to get on with it. and at least u can tell her if u get cramps or cant go to the beach etc. so much easier than having to lie! that said, congratulations. what i do at night is put the pad up front and sleep on my stomach, but i usually have two and put one towards the back as well. i also wear tights to keep it all in place. it really works. an overnight pad should work instead of two pads. once again, please just tell ur mother. take a deep breath, tell urself that once u say it itll be over and life will be back to normal. please please tell her. wouldnt u want ur daughter to tell u? in any case, u need pads so find a way to get them. please tho ask ur mum. if i misunderstood ur question and u have told ur mother u got ur period...pheuf. and congratulations. If u just dont want to tell her u leaked just tell her u want overnight pads. say they wud make u more comfortable....and also use my other tips. y dont u have 2 pads if ur mother knows tho? |

Congratz! I got my period not too long ago too! Well, you need to wear a pad at night. Your period never stops when you are on it! If your flow is light, wear a pantyliner. They are much more comfy! If you are a teen or preeteen, wear a jounior size pad! Hope this helps! Mary D. |

You should wear one (or a tampon) at night. I don't like the ones with wings, though. They are extremely uncomfortable to me... Also, since it's your first, it's going to be uncomfortable. I remember my first time felt like I was wearing a diaper. It gets better as time goes by. Just make sure you change your pads often. |

yeah you have to wear one, but since is your first time you have to get used to it. Maybe you should use the pads that re relly thin that way you wont feel it. Just go to the store and look at all the kinds of pads there are and choose the one that you think are the best for you. |

If you do not wear a pad,it will be a bloody mess. You could try tampons in the future, but since it is only your first period,it would be very uncomfortable. |

You can wear tampons also. Pads are ok during the day but they can become a real pain in the butt when you are shifting all throughout the night. Tampons are NOT as scary as they seem! I wouldn't suggest using anything larger then regular absorbency and make sure to get UNSCENTED! Try getting Tampax Pearls, they have REALLY nice plastic applicaters that are very easy to use. They will come with a little pamphlet and instructions (I know it seems stupid but read them!) They are very informative! And then Tampon away! Good luck hun! |
