It sounds like a hormone or Thyroid imbalance, which will only get worse over time and affect her health and shorten her lifespan. There is nothing you can do for this at home - she will NEED to get to the doctor and get a full blood workup and Thyroid panel, and will likely be on lifelong medication.
If she can't or won't do it, you will have to be strong, stand up to your parents, and insist that they take her to be seen. There is no such thing as "private" when you're dead.

Do some research on www.webmd.com. If she is having serious issues like this she needs to get seen regardless. Talk to a trusted adult like a school nurse, or another family member.

She may not be pregnant. She may be having a severe reproductive (area) issue. This probably is not pregnancy but instead an infection. I would say to tell your parents. She could go to a free health clinic (in my state they are called Panhandle Heath Center for Women) without your parents knowing and get a routine PAP. This could get much worse. Not too mention, what kind of answer do expect? This is beyond you, your parents beliefs, your religion, or anything other than your sister's health. TRUST ME, no matter what religion your parents are, they would much rather have a healthy alive daughter, than one who died from not going to the doctor.

Don't ask if you don't want the answer. First of all she can go to dr with no parent ......patient/doctor confidentiality. Besides, she is obviously sick and needs medical attention. Would you rather this continue and she get worse......time to grow up and face the facts...she must see a doctor.....

is she eating ok? a lot of these symptoms can be from anorexia or other eating disorders. your body kind of shuts down when you don't give it the proper nutrients. she could be very sick. if she's a virgin then why would it matter if your parents think she would be pregnant, she obviously couldn't be. Tell her to start eating healthy and take a multi-vitamin. I know this may sound a little cheesy, but if her immune system is really rotten, which is what it sounds like, eating healthy food and taking care of her body can help get her immune system back to where it should be. If it's really horrible, why have your parents not noticed? Hair falling out in large quantities is NOT a pregnancy symptom, so they should know it's not because of that.

If your parents are really that private, there are free clinics that she can go without your parents knowledge. But her symptoms are serious and she need to be looked by someone. The fact that she is experiencing so many symptoms it could mean a number of things. Does she use tampons? She may have TSS, if thats the case it could be fatal if not treated. She may also have a vaginal infection that is causing her discharge. And cause its not being treated it will get worst and may start to attack the rest of body. What treatments have you been giving her to help alleviate the problems? I hope I helped, I really hope she gets better soon, and against every ones wishes to go see a free clinic doctor. COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL!

B,
This is a hard position to find yourself in. Although it's easy to say...Gee, it sounds like an eating disorder...your concern is valid and must be taken seriously.
My advice is to do what young people should do when a situation is bigger than your shoulders can or should be trying to take on. For your own peace of mind, put the facts on the table with a trusted teacher or guidance counselor. They will know how to proceed.
Don't be concerned about pissing your sister off. If your parents haven't noticed and her teachers haven't noticed, it's probably because sisters seem to have more of a sense about stuff.
A good guide in what you should do is: If the shoe was on the other foot, what would your sister do that could possibly save your life--would she do it?
Another idea is to call Lifeline @ (585)275-5151. A counselor can give you some ideas on how to handle reporting a dangerous situation as opposed to getting someone in trouble.

It sounds like you have two choices:
1. give priority to your sister's very LIFE and get her to see a doctor. Her life is more important than your parents religious beliefs.
At 17 she is old enough to make a decision about her OWN body. Her body and life does NOT belong to your parents. They belong to your sister!!!!
Has your sister gained a lot of weight? She could have hypothyroidism which is easily cured by taking Thyroid pills but she has to have her blood measured to see what the problem is.
2. sit back and watch your sister get worse and suffer and likely die without a doctor's diagnosis and treatment.
Its really her choice: she can choose her own LIFE or give up her LIFE and face death over allegiance to your parents!
Come on now, isn't your sister's life more important than your parents believes????!!!

Sorry to say but she needs to go to the Dr.'s this sounds serious. She may be having a number of issues with her body but if all this is going on and your parents aren't Noticing (Great lose of Hair and being really pail) there are issues there to. Whether they are busy with work or church or what ever she needs to go ASAP!!!! This is not a healthy state to be in. Please take her before she gets any worse!! Her life could be at stake! Which would be worse upset parents that are then glad that their daughter is being taken care of or the lose of your sisters life?

As much as you don't want to hear it, she should go to the doctor. Your parents will be heartbroken if something horrible happens to her, and she didn't go because of them. I know I would rather my child be alive and healthy than the obvious alternative.

There is really no other option than to go to the doctor. It does not sound like pregnancy due to the hair loss and scratchy legs. She could be really really sick. I went to WebMd and entered some of her symptoms and there is a really long list as to what she could have. I suggest you help her talk to your parents and get them to take her to a doctor.

the only thing i can think of is her nutrition. SOmetimes being malnutritioned (not meaning anorexic or anything) can cause some of the symptoms you described. She may not be getting the right values of Calcium, protein, fat..... that could cause the absence of her period, her hair falling out, being pale, dizzy....Her excersice routine can cause the absence of a period too. I understand there is a fear of your parents being so judgemental and angry. It depends on how old you are also. If you are over 18 yourself there is a confidentiality form you can feel out and they can't BY LAW talk to your parents. Since your sister is under age, she wont qualify for the confidentiality. But as much as you dont want to hear it, the doctor is a good choice. It could be very serious and life threatening. SOmetimes just missing her period and feeling dizzy isnt just about nutrition, it can be a whole slew of things. The human body is a serious thing and its very crucial to get the treatment she needs. Even if the results come back normal you would certainly feel a lot better about it.

seriously, she NEEDS to see a DR. Take her to Planned Parenthood, your parents NEVER need to know. IT will be FREE since she's under 18, and they can test her for stuff there!

so let's weight the options.
1. go to the doctor and get her help
2. don't go to the doctor for whatever strange reason and let her die.
there's something really wrong with her...and regardless of virginity or trust or any other lame excuse, you have GOT to go to the doctor!!
seriously now...

she may have a severe illness, perhaps a virus that will need treatment.Take her to the emergency room rather than wating for you parents if your that scared. Then have them notified once she's already there. In the meantime she'll get a few lab tests done to see what could be causing this problems and since you say she isnt pregnant then all should be well the doc's can say with confidence to your parents that she isnt pregnant, and other tests can be run.But you do really need to take her to a doctor, that's the best thing to do. Just because you parents may think she's pregnant doesnt mean you shouldnt tell them whats going on. If she truly has nothing to hide then she shouldn't worry, unless ther's more than what shes telling you.

okay first of all, u need to go to a clinic. find one in ur area that helps people with no insurance. look in the yellow pages or ask other people u know. secondly, she could have an eating disorder or maybe some sort of pelvic inflamation. or maybe an std of some sort. in any case, you need to help her and do the right thing. ur parents may be strict, but if they see how sick she is, then why havent they taken her to see a doctor? you can also ask ur church for help if that is an option for you. Take good care.

My best guess would be a Thyroid problem. Ofcourse I'm not a doctor.
What causes excessive hair loss?
A number of things can cause excessive hair loss. For example, about 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This hair loss is related to the stress of the illness and is temporary.
Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your Thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment Thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss.
As for the other symptoms, lots of virgin girls miss their periods. I missed mine for months at a time when I was only twelve, and definately a virgin. This could also be caused by hormones and possibly thyroids. Another problem could be Ovarion cysts.
Any way you put it, Hate to say it, but she needs the thing you said not to say.

I am pretty certain that your parents did not wake up yesterday and do know that being pregnant is not the only reason why someone might miss their period.
Your sister really needs to go to the doctor to find out what is wrong.
Who cares if your parents think she is pregnant? A trip to the doctor will prove she is not (if she is really not pregnant). It is obvious that something is seriously wrong.
So I will say it, GO TO THE DOCTORS!!!!!!!

She can either go see a doctor or lay around till she is bald and dies. There is something very wrong with your sister. Your parents are a bit ignorant to just assume she is pregnant. Get this girl some medical attention before you need funeral home attention.

honestly shes 17 she doesn't need her parents permission to go to the doctors, she can even tell the doctors not to tell her parents. but if she honestly doesn't want to go to the doctors try looking her symptoms up on webmd or have her call a doctors office and ask to speak to someone asap
