When they say unprotected sex is the main cause of teen pregnancy, they are referring to not using any form of birth control-- be it condoms, birth control pills, or any other form of birth control.
When teens get pregnant, it is most likely caused by not using any protection at all. That being said, you can also get pregnant by not using birth control properly.
When used correctly, 98 percent of women relying on male condoms will remain pregnancy free. With typical use (meaning perhaps not putting the condom on right away, incorrect use), 85 percent relying on male condoms will remain pregnancy free. By comparison, only 15 percent of women using no method of contraception in a year will remain pregnancy free.
PLUS, condoms protect against STDs.
You don't need birth control pills, but they would increase your protection against pregnancy. They DO NOT protect against STDs.

Unprotected is unprotected. No birth control, no condoms, nothing.
And it's mostly because they have unprotected sex. Like.. no condoms, no birth control, nothing.

First off, your boyfriend is wrong, well partly. Condoms are not 100% effective so the condom/ birth control combo is your best bet outside of abstinence. Unprotected sex usually refers to no method of birth control by either person. Teens usually get pregnant when using no methos of birth control.

I would say that if you are going to have sex and you are obviously not ready for a baby, you need to be on birth control and use a condom, because condoms only work 97% of the time. They can break or be used improperly. As a woman who had a baby in my teens, (as a result of no protection), I would urge you to make well thought out decisions. I love my daughter more than life itself and my life is great now, but I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone, ever. Take care of yourself and make educated decisions!
p.s. boyfriends are idiots, I know you think you are in love with him and hes different and yada yada yada but if he's telling you you don't need bc it translates to-"I don't want to wait for you to get bc to have sex."

unprotected sex could lead to sexual transmitted diseases liek clomidia, HIP and the rest including genital worts if him or you have had previous partners who have had other previous partners too but you cant have it if you use a condom so dont worry. your boyfriend its right but you can take birth control pill aswell if you want just in case, to put your mind at rest so no need to be paranoid. Just enjoy it, relax although there is lil chance of condom splitting but even if it does, it doesnt matter as long as u have the pill coz then u have 2 protecting u so stop being paranoid.

I believe it would mean no protection at all unprotected sex, If I was a Girl I would want to be on birth control. Condoms don't always work and may not put it on right. And if get urge and have no rubbers id say birth control to be safe.

A condom should protect you but understand that it is not 100% guaranteed. people still get pregnant using them. I do not take birth control, but use condoms and a sponge. Usually if you combine two different products together, it will help minimize the risks. Still, there is always that risk so make sure that you are ready and mature enough for any consequence. Also, you and your partner should be tested beofre beginning a sexual relationship
good luck!

Use at least two methods of birth control every time just in case one fails (use a condom and the pill). When they say this, I believe they mean absolutely no protection at all.

They mean no protection at all. And most of the time, when teens get pregnant, it's because there was no use of a condom or it was improperly used.
And your boyfriend is right. Me and my boyfriend only use a condom. However, being on birth control will greatly reduce your chances of getting pregnant than just a condom.
Hope this helps and makes you slightly less paranoid!

what the authorities are really hoping is that teens will abstain from sex and that they will be smart in waiting to get married.
most teenagers are not mature enough to handle the emotions and so after kissing and hugging they get themselves wrapped up into a wave of lust that they can't get out of. Imagine a sea of foam that comes on to the shore engulfing all that it touches. you can't get out of the foam even if you want to.
when young people have sex that is unprotected, they are setting themselves up for some very hard realities of life.
1st, you can get an std and then you will have to deal with that for the rest of your life.
2nd, when you have sex with a condom only there is a chance that it could break and then you could get pregnant.
the best thing to do is to abstain from sex and get married. then if you get pregnant it will be OK.
God loves all his children and he asked us to be careful with the power to create life. if we abuse it, he will take it away from us.
May you be adult enough to realize that you should wait to have sex.
God bless

Condoms are on 85% effective in SOME people. You shouldnt only be worried about getting pregnat cause hey, you never know. Your bf could have an STD without even showing symptoms. Condoms only protect girls from getting HIV and while that seems good, do you really want syphilis? Herpes? Chlamydia? Infertillity? I wounldnt. Maybe yall should get tested first. Or wait till marriage.
But if its 100% neccisary to have sex, try two condoms. Hm might work incase one breaks.

Your boyfriend is a idiot whenever you have unprotected sex without condoms or pills is a high chance of pregnancy. Now if the man puts the condom on properly it does decrease the chance of getting pregnant but there's still a chance like condom breaking or slipping off. If a women is taking birth control and she taking her pills properly then you should be safe but there has be cases women have becom pregnant on birth control but it's rare.

when they say unprotected, they mean no protection at all. condoms are good and work a large percent of the time. (98% or something) only if the break or you don't use them properly is there risk of STD or pregnancy. just a condom should be fine. if you are not feeling safe with it, then just get birth control to be on the safe side. but condoms are very reliable

Please take birth control if you are going to play AND make him use a condom too. Condoms protect you from disease and are not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy ... it tells you that right on the box. Take it from me, I got pregnant at an early age ... my parents raised my son because I just wasn't ready to do it on my own. I rarely got to see him because my Mom considered him HERS ... even though he knew from DAY ONE that I am his Mom....he doesn't have much to do with me now. He is almost 20 and I have my first grandson on the way. Because of our strained relationship I will probably rarely see my grandson. Please do not put yourself through this. If you really want my opinion, dump the guy...he doesn't respect you. Find someone who will. I love my son dearly and am glad that I had him ... but I wish I had waited ... and also been with someone who had wanted to stick around.

You BF said what? You don't need birth control? Wow, is he an idiot.
A condom is a valid means of birth control, but it is not fool proof. Things go wrong. Damage occurs. Back-up is a good idea, especially w/ a bf who's clueless.

I believe that if you are going to have sex and do not want to become pregnant, that the female should use birth control and the male should also wear a condom. This will increase the chances of an unwanted pregnancy and also STDs.

DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM!!!!!!! always get yourself on birth control. Even if your not having sex its a way to regulate your periods, clear up acne, and improve your well being. Don't ever rely on a man to use protection. I don't know how old you are but in most states it is confidental if your on birth control. Your parents wont' find out. Whatever you do please please please do not listen to him. When using a condom and birth control together properly they are 99% effective against pregnancy!
