I have heard from many people that your period stops when you're in the water. I honestly believe it, because I have tested it. I have never EVER bled in water, nor have I ever seen or heard of someone else doing it. I think your mom's plan is fine.
Also, if shes you BFF, whats the big deal if she finds out?
Really, don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck :]

ok from personal experience. ive done it b4 a lot of times with my period. ive gone it with a bathing suit alone, without any shorts, and nothing happens, it wont spread. For some reason your period just clogs when your in the water. But after you get out of the pool go the the bathroom and put a pad on. It wont come back right after u get out of the pool, but just so you don't start dripping red i suggest you do. You don't have to wear shorts, cuz then you'll end up getting a farmers tan, and they suck. Just go in normal. It'll be ok, also if you got your period a few days ago its even better. Good luck.

Your period does NOT stop when in water. The shorts with a pad would be fine until you are use to a tampon. But tampons are DEFFINETLY the best way to go.

she can't be much of a bff! Being of the same sex she is used to having periods. I wouldn't worry about it. Most likely you won't leak in the pool. I notice when I have my period and go swimming, my period actually slows down and I don't bleed as much for a little while. Also, the chlorine will kill most germs anyway.

I have been while on my period without using a tampon, so I think you'll be ok with the shorts. Unless your flow is heavy then your friend will notice some red floating in the water. But she's ur friend. Just tell her your period is on and the two of u get in the pool and have fun without worrying about it.

Well if you have a really light flow, your Mom's suggestion MIGHT work. Lots of people think that your blood flow stops in the water - it doesn't! If I were you, I'd try tampons. They're easy, even if you're a virgin. they're just as big as your finger (and they make light flow tampons that are even smaller). Plus they are a LOT cleaner!

DONT DO THAT. You will leake into the pool, and your friend might see it. And you will be swimming with it. Just try and use a tampon, playex sport is probably the best and most comfortable. Here's a site to help you http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/tampon.html

if you wanna know what happens, just go right ahead and do that
you will see, its not pleasant

i'd just sit out of the pool or just put ur legs in and u can wear a pad but i would say not to go in the pool, but it really depends on how heavy your flow is

well, i wear tampons. But my friend constintly does that at the beach and pool. 99% of people don't bleed when in water, everything should be fine but do wear those black shorts just in case. and yes but a pad on right away after. DONT GO IN WITH A PAD.

I would totally not be comfortable with that. Even though blood flow seems to slow or stop alltogether, like when your in the shower, I would not be going in a pool for a couple hours with no tampon, the blood naturally needs to come out eventually and it will, no matter if your in the water or not. They have super slim tampons that you could learn to insert with just a couple tries, its really not as bad as you think, and will give you piece of mind. But it is a girlfriend your having over, im sure shes either got her period or getting it soon, so dont be embarrassed if she knows, do what your comfortable with.

well, that COULD work, but if you've ever been on your period and gotten a bath, you mightve noticed that blood still came out a little during the first minute or so .
then it will subside, until you are out again .
i really suggest using a tampon . so many of my friends thought they werent ready, and then just did it .
get Playtex Sport . they're the most comfortable, and they have the BEST instructions on how to insert one !
im a freak about leaving them in too long though, so i take mine out after 4 hours .
however, dont leave one in (if you use one) for more than 8 hours .
TSS can be deadly .
other than that, what your mom said should work .
but i strongly suggest you use a tampon . after you use one for the first time, you wanna keep using them
they just feel less *yuck* than pads.. thats just my opinion .
hope it helped [:

Yes, you will still have your period in the pool. Did your mom happen to be cautious about how unsanitary that is? If it's your own pool, then so be it - do what you want. But if it's a public pool, how would you react if you heard that someone was in there on their period, with no protection?
I suggest that you either learn how to use tampons or NIX the pool idea. I know, it sucks - I've been there, too.

You definitely shouldn't go in the pool with a pad. It'll get soggy and lumpy and you'll look really awkward. You should ask your mom for help with a tampon.

No honey going without protection is a big nono. Not only will it leak but also expose your friend to STDs(yes its possible). Can't your mom teach you about tampons? Or a friends mom? maybe even your friend! I know it seems embarrassing but its really not. I'm sure she has her period to deal with at times too.

how heavy are you bleeding? if you aren't bleeding that hard your fine if your bleeding really heavy then you either don't go swimming or lean how to put a tampon in. I am 17 and I just got brave enough to try it. Honestly it isn't that hard. Fid the ones with an applicator

I wouldn't personally get in the pool without a tampon in. But why are you so afraid of your best friend finding out? She's a girl too.. and your BEST friend supposedly, I doubt you should be worried about her finding out of all people.
