The first few months after getting your period can be totally irregular, and yes, unexpected. Everyone experiences it at the beginning of menstruation, so don't worry. Soon, you'll fall into a regular cycle of about 5-7 days every 4 weeks or so. For now, I can only suggest you keep tampons and/or pads with you always so that you're prepared for whatever comes.
Good luck!

If it was kind of heavy this time it may have just run out. Keep on the lookout, it might come back, it might not. But at this time it's normal to be irregular.

You'll be irregular at first. Could last for maybe a year. It's completely normal, and unfortunately, it can surprise you when you least expect it. I'm at the other end of the Spectrum, in my 40s, with months going between periods. Then <boom> out of the blue, I get one.
<sigh> sometimes I swear Mother Nature must have been smoking pot when she came up with periods.

Your period would be crazy for the first year or so when you first get it. It is going to be unexpected unless you start taking a birth control which will keep it consistent.

your period will take a while to settle down. At least a couple of months. It may come not on a monthly cycle for a while (ie 20 days, then 35 days, then 28 days etc), its length will vary, all that sort of (not so) fun stuff. Imagine it as going on a little exploration to try things out.
Good luck.

i just got my period too (well in nov) but iv only had two so far, like every other month. the first one lasted 2 weeks and the other 1 and a half. and then i sort of had a short unexpected one that lasted for like two days. my point it, periods are SOO unpredictible. it's pretty much like a guessing game. you won't know what its really like until it becomes regular in a few years. GOOD LUCK!
ps if your really worried about it, ask your mom, hearing it from somebody you love always makes it better.

shouldnt be anything to worry about. a lot fo womens period lasts between 3-7 days every month. it doesn't necessarily mean you will have the same amount of days every month, ESPECIALLY if you have only started recently .your body will in time adapt to its own cycle... then they should become more regular and consistent in how long they last. dont worry about it!

Okay first of all please don't worry. When your period first starts it can be terrible erratic, in duration and when it comes. I would suggest that you carry some protection with you just until it settles down into a normal cycle, but it being short is nothing to worry about it is just your body getting used to new hormones flying around and settling down.
Is there an older female you could talk to about this, you have no need to be embarrassed or worried about it, every woman has these problems.

This is called an irregular period.
If this keeps up, get checked out.
Generally a lot of women experience this. Your body functions different with hormones and with stress involved so your period gets imbalanced. If your period is REALLY irregular, where you dont even have one anymore, or one lasts more than a week, you should get checked out.

your period is different from person to person it can range anywhere from 3 to 8 days... but seeming as how you just started getting yours, just remember that your body is going through changes so you wont have a regular period for some time, you may have a period of only 3days one month and a period of 7the next month. you may even skip one month... if you get that worried just consult your doctor or go to the gyno...

When you first start your periods, they are not going to be so regular. It takes awhile until your body settles into its cycle. I would suggest wearing light day pads until you get used to how your body feels when it starts.

your first periods are very unsettled. it will take at leat 2 years for them to be at regular times,so since u have only started, i'm not suprised it has happened. bring a few pads are tampons with you if you are not sure, but usually there will be discharge ( a creamy , white fluid in your underwear)if you are going to have them soon. also you may feel angry or moody.
good luck!

Gee, some answers are so stupid. Where do they get their info. It is very common to be irregular when first starting. Then there are some who are always irregular. Everyone is different.
Just make sure you carry something with you at all times till you get regular and your hormones get a clue.
If after a few more periods, it still concerns you, have it checked out. Very normal. Relax.

Every female is different, but usually for the first couple of YEARS, periods can be completely and totally irregular. It's normal! Some months it will be so many days, and come at times where you don't expect it... Sometimes you'll expect it and you won't get it for a long time... I wouldn't worry too much. If it's really bothering you, you can ask your doctor at your next checkup, or if you know any nurses. :)

No everybody has a different type of period. It won't come back until next month. Your body is just getting use to it. I'm 16 and I have a 3 day period. It pays off. Some have it the full 7 days. Just depends on your body. Wait until next month and see how long it last.

Don't worry..it's totally normal for it to be all irregular and last at different times. My first one (last october) lasted 5 days. My second lasted 2 days, and it came 28 days after the first. My third one came 47 days after my second one ended, and it lasted about 8 days. i'm still waiting for the 4th, and it's been over a month.
basically what i'm saying is that's it's normal...it MIGHT come suddenly back, but probably not before 2-3 weeks are up.
i hope this helped!
