Cramps are caused by low Progesterone the last half of your cycle. Unfortunately, doctors are not trained on the hormonal system. If a female has a problem with their cycle, the answer is to stop the cycle with birth control pills. The best book on hormones is by Steven Hotze, "Health, Hormones, and Happiness."
If you view the second link it will tell you where Progesterone levels should be during the month. Most female problems occur because Progesterone does not reach the level that it should the last half of the cycle(link 2).
You can try an over-the-counter Progesterone cream on days 15-26. Progest is a brand you may find in health food stores. Progest is bioidentical Progesterone, not a synthetic. All of the bad news on hormone replacement therapy are on the use of synthetics.
Finding a doctor that knows about bioidentical hormones replacement therapy(BHRT) is very difficult. If you are successful in finding a doctor that does knows about BHRT then they may use the wrong dose.
The biggest mistake doctors make is giving too much Progesterone. The way to take Progesterone is to start out low and slowly increase the dose until the symptoms are gone. Go by the way you feel when taking it. Also, split the dose. Think about how your body would release Progesterone. I cannot understand why doctors prescribe 100mg or 50mg Progesterone pills once a day. The maximum starter dose shouldn't be more than 25mg twice a day. If you take too much Progesterone it will convert to estrogen. Folllowing the instructions above, that shouldn't be a problem.
If you are post-menopause then you will need to take bioidentical estrogen and Progesterone pills daily.
If while taking Progesterone you experience vaginal dryness or night sweats then you will have to take estrogen with the Progesterone. Over-the-counter Estroven may help with that.

All I do to stop the cramps is lay down in bed for 25 to about 40 minutes. Or you could take a really long bubble bath with your hair in a ponytail and just lay there for a long time. Also if you want to be healthy while fighting them off, just drink a glass of cold water or jog and workout. Also you could lay on the couch and take deep breaths. I always do that. Easy awnser just sit down and relax.

if you can take ibprofin or Advil, then try hot baths, warm compresses, lay on the floor and put you feet on the couch so that your legs make an extention of the couch and your upper legs are straight or adjust it to lay on the couch or your bed. oh i've found that taking a pillow and hugging it in helps somewhat. oh yeah with the laying down you might have a little like weird tingle feeling but relax and breath it will help

A heating pad works good both to the front and back of your abdomen or you could take a hot bath...also working out and going to the gym works. If you have a honey-having them rub your belly back and forth gently helps also...hope this helps!

I had debilitating cramps for years and years. The kind that make you cry and roll up in a ball all curled up in bed. I had to write off three days every month because I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything. I tried everything. Heating pads, exercise, pressure point relief...you name it, I tried it. Nothing worked. (I don't like taking medications--but tried some anyway.) Someone told me that I needed more Calcium. I took it, but it didn't help.
Then one time when I was purchasing Calcium, I accidentally bought the kind that has Boron in it too. That was the key. I never have cramps anymore--unless I forget to take my Calcium with Boron.
You can buy it online, or at your nearest health food store. Below is the kind I use.

ive been a cramp sufferer since i was 12 and have tried all sorts of remedies. the best for me is Ibuprofen and a heating pad. does Ibuprofen count as a pain med for you? i lie down in a cool environment and firmly press a heating pad over my uterus. cramps are caused by inflammation so heat helps the cramps dissolve away. also if you can take an anti-inflammatory or muscle relaxer it would be benifecial also. i feel your pain!

A few good solutions are:
1. Eat pretzels or salty crackers. It's a fact that the saltyness absorbs whatever is bothering you, the rest wraps it up and disolves it with the salt.
2. Go in you room, get a hot water bottle, and rest it on your tummy. Put some nice scented candles, too. They will relax you and make you feel better. Take a nap with these and stay in bed for a while.
3. Take a warm bubble bath. Fill with relaxing scented bubbles, and warm, calming water.

hot bath and a warm compress for about thirty minutes. if you do some stretches that might help a little also. stand up and reach as high as you can, then bend just a little to the side to stretch your abdomen. the stretches don't help too much, but hey, it should be something. but first take a hot bath

Have a hot bath, or fill a hot water bottle and put it on your stomach or back - wherever it hurts. In future, if you cannot take pain relief, find out if its okay for you to take Evening Primrose Oil. Its packed with Omega 6 which is great for hormonal issues, which in turn will help with period pain - its also great for skin!

YOU MAY NOT BE IN THE MOOD FOR IT, BUT A CLIMAX WILL MAKE THE CRAMPS GO AWAY... I KNOW IT SOUNDS BAD. BUT ITS THE TRUTH... WHEN YOU CLIMAX IT MAKES YOUR CERVIX CONTRACT AND IT WILL ALSO MAKE YOUR CRAMPS EASE.....

Physical Excercise will relieve the pain of cramps. Try some sit-ups or jog in place for a few minutes. Swimming also really helps! Good Luck...hang in there!

What helps me is laying in bed and putting a pillow between my legs. For some reason that takes some pressure off somehow. Also warmth helps. I keep those instant stick on heat patches in my bathroom "stock" for when I am on my period.
Also, as another poster mentioned....climaxing does relieve the cramping by contracting then releasing the muscle.
I hope you feel better really soon!!
