That is not too long. Everyones monthly is different. Mine is and always have been 5-8 days. Some girls only lasts 2-3 days. Nothing is wrong. But since you are going to the doctors anyways, get a physical while you are there just because its good to do one once a year.

thats normal. just because everyone in your family's is different doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. Are they on birth control?? that makes your periods shorter. normal time for your period is 5-7 days

Everyone is different!
You can't expect to have the same menstruation as the rest of your family. As you get older your cramps & the number of days your period last will begin to decrease.

That isn't necessarily abnormal. When I first had my period at 13, it lasted 7 days also. When you say "everyone in your family," are you referring to people as young as you or are they much older than you? If that is the case, you can't use them as a comparison as everyone is different. As you get older (20's or 30's), your body will change and your periods may get a little shorter.
I know women in their 50's who have 3 days, not 2 as you described, so don't let this little number make you afraid. It is normal. If you have your period for 2 weeks, then I can say that's something to worry about - it's not normal.

being a nurse that is normal average is 5-7 days just because everyone in your family only has there's for 2 days that does not mean you will be the same and having it for 2 days seem a little short to me. The doctor will tell you the same thing as I just told you.

it will probably change over time. your hormones are still fluctuating and it will take time for it to regulate.

7 days is not something to worry about. Chances are it will be less days as you grow up. No big deal!

That is not a long period. 7 days is a typical period. We are all different, you can't expect a set time every single month. Your wasting your money at the doctor, trust me.

It is normal for some women (myself included) to have their periods be 7 days in length.
The normal menstrual cycle lasts from 3-7 days.
As for going to the doctor, the reason your mom wants to take you is because she just wants to make sure that you are ok and that's good too because you can get even more information from them about your periods.

Honey,
Just because everyone in your family doesn't have a longer period does not mean something is wrong!
You're very young and your system probably isn't totally regulated yet - all through your teens you can have inconsistancies with your period. It might not always be every 28 days, it might not always be light, it might last 3 days then 7 - you are growing and no one's system is 100% the same all the time.
Your doctor is going to tell your mom that you're completely normal. Most women have periods that last 4-7 days, I was always taught most have periods 6-7 days. YOU ARE FINE!!!
If you have really bad cramping or if your periods are every 2-3 weeks or really irregular, then I can see her taking you in. Just because you're unique is no reason to if you're otherwise healthy. I think you'll find your doctor is going to tell her exactly what I've said.
Stay healthy, don't worry, be happy!
All my best,
Lynnae

totally normal. youre only 12, so your body is still adjusting to having a period. the cycles will not be normal for about the first year.
it sucks, but its part of being a girl! whoo hoo
tell your mom to cool it, and that its normal, but theres nothing wrong with going to a doctor, just to be safe.
good luck!!

It's normal for it to last that long even if the other women in your family don't have them that long! There isn't anything a Doctor can do about it! Actually 2 days is abnormal for most women and 5-7 days is normal!!!

My period always lasts about a week. I believe it varies from person to person. 2 days is WAY short anyways! Lucky women. The doctor will probably tell you that it's not a big deal.

This is totally normal, and it may change as you get older or stay the same. Either way you will start to get familiar with your cycle and how it works. But, do talk to a doctor to be on the safe side.

7 days is not too long for a period. You are perfectly normal so I am not sure why your mom thinks she needs to take you to the doctor. Everyone is different in how long their period lasts but 7 days is perfectly normal.
