don't worry about it. 8 is a perfectly normal time to start showing some signs of puberty. make sure that she understands what's going on in her body and help her along the way. she's just fine!

The scientists have figured it out. A girl can start puberty anytime between the ages of 8 and 16. LOL. How many scientists did they need to figure that one out? Its normal and a part of life. Don't worry. If she feels self conscious about it then talk to her and see if she maybe wants to start shaving. My daughters have begun to grow underarm hair and I wax their underarms for them. They are 11 and 13.

certainly could be natural for her, that does happen. think back when you started to grow hair there, maybe around the same age. we all mature at different times and rates. she's simply growing up.

Well she's going through puberty regaurdless of her age and weight if the underarm thing is bothering her and you just tell her she can shave it. And be sure to give her "the talk".

She's still sounds like she's within the normal range. Growing hair is one of the earliest signs of puberty, so it's nothing to worry about.

Don't worry plenty of children go throuegh puberty earlier than other children. And some children start later than other children. For example I am going into the eigth grade and I haven't went through puberty yet.

me and my sister started growing pubic hair when we were 7, it didn't grow fully till we reached puberty. Its strange too cause we're not tall or fat, we have small breasts, and got periods when we were about 13 and started puberty at around that age. I think its called "Precocious pubarche"
Sometimes nature can be weird. I wouldn't worry too much. If you are unsure check with doc.
This would prob ring true for under arm hair too:

I got mine at 9 then started my period at 11. I was way too embarassed to tell my mom, so I first tried cutting it off with scissors. Didn't work! They I got brave and used my mom's razor.
Just talk to her about it and show her how to use a razor. If you don't have her shave it, it's very possible kids at school will notice and make fun.

It is not unusual for very young girls to start puberty early. Does she also have pubic hair and periods? With the wide use of growth hormones in the meats we eat, early onset of puberty is not unusual nowadays. It is most prevalent in Puerto Rico. It also could be she could have excessive estrogen and/or testostrone production. You might want to consult a doctor but I wouldn't worry about it as long as she's healthy and have no unusual symptoms.

I was 8 when I started to have hair under my arm...and like her, I was under weight if anything. It is very normal. My mom showed me how to shave it. This was also the time that I started to wear deoderant. She is just developing a little early, but no big deal!
Good Luck and God Bless!

it's just puberty, there is nothing you can do about it. if it gets real bad let her shave under her arms or if she gets embarrassed about it

Nothing, just tell her to shave.
My friend got her period at eight years old, it's okay.
And she wasn't and isn't over-weight.

Maybe she is having this early puberty thign? I read in the news that a 9 year old girl having her menses already. So maybe your daughter is one of those early-bloomers? You could bring her to the doctors if you're worried.

i started shaving my underarms around 8 or 9. i waited till i was almost 11 for legs. i would just talk to her about shaving and just try to keep her on a healthy diet and make sure she's out running around and playing games for at least an hour a day. if you're really worried i would talk to her pediatrician (just you and the doctor, no need to drag her in unless the doctor says to)

8 is pretty young but maybe it is just in the genetics. I started getting hair in my pubic area at 9 and then I got my period at 10. I cannot remember if I had hairy armpits or not.. but I'm sure it will be ok for a couple more years. If you are concerned though, I would think that it will be ok to teach her how to shave but make sure she is ready. Shaving for the rest of our lives isn't the most fun thing to do!
