If you need something wear a panty liner...would not advise to wear tampons when you don't need to.

YES!!!!
You can get TSS when using a tampon either:
when you're not on your period
OR
when you use a tampon too 'big' for your flow (ie, using a super plus when you need a standard)
You're most at risk of TSS....
and if you don't get to hospital and sorted....you get flowers for all the wrong reasons......to go on your newly acquired grave....
If you do get sorted, you can't use tampons again without a dr agreeing that you should be fine....
So really....don't do it.....

wearing tampons increases the risk of toxic shock syndrome. It could also irritate if used long term & possibly lead to thrush amongst other things.I think the question would be "why would you want to?" If its because you an excessive discharge you need to go & get checked out, if everything is normal down there then use them for your period only

apparently so ... even when on your period you should look to use a tampon that has a low absorbancy as possible that is still suitable for you ... i don't know how or exactly why but woman have actually passed out from using tampons that have too high an absorbancy .... when you don't have a period use a panty liner to keep that fresh and clean feeling.

Yes, tampons contain certain chemicals and should only be used when you are actively bleeding. The vagina does not cope well to foreign bodies when not on your period. The natural moisture will be soaked up by the tampon which will leave an unnatural pH balance in your vagina - at least this could lead to a bacterial/fungal infection, and at worst toxic shock syndrome with is potentially fatal. Panty liners can be used instead if you are worried? Plus tampons should be used at the lowest strenth (i.e. don't wear a "super" one when only a light period etc). Hope this helps with your question.

i don't think you need to use tampons when your not but if you feel the need ............. i use natural sponges for my periods, you just rinse them out and reinsert. Not as messy as it sounds, enviromentally friendly and no risk of tss.

I don't believe there would be a problem wearing a tampon without being on your period. Why would you want to anyways? As with all feminine hygiene products you increase the risk of toxic shock syndrome. Do some research first.

Why in the world would any woman want to do that? A tampon is for use when you have your period, there is no other reason to wear it otherwise.

yes it is this can lead to toxic shock syndrome which can be fatal or leave you disabled. always read the leaflets with tampons if you are not sure of the symptoms of TSS its very important for every woman to know this.

There are plenty of mini panty pads available. Asda do a teeny one which is very discreet. They are about £1.59 for 25 in a teeny purple pack ideal to fit into your handbag.

Why would you??
It is dangerous - you are in danger of developing Toxic Shock Syndrome, as the toxins in your body will build up. This can be very dangerous, even fatal.
So don't do it, there's no reason to anyway.

No, do not use tampons until your period begins. Do not use them as a precaution because you expect your period to start on a given day, or to control other types of discharge. Here's what may happen:
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a rare but serious disease that occurs when toxins produced by certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (Staph) get into the bloodstream. The initial symptoms are similar to the flu, and can include high fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, and disorientation. There may also be low blood pressure, shock, dehydration, sore throat, muscle pain, peeling skin, and a rash that resembles a sunburn. Toxic Shock Syndrome can be fatal if it is not diagnosed and treated immediately.
Tampon Use and TSS
Tampons do not cause Toxic Shock Syndrome, and the disease is not limited to menstruating women. Men, non-menstruating women, and children can also get TSS. The incidence of TSS has dropped significantly since the epidemic in the early 1980s. Over the last number of years, only a few cases have been reported, and of these, approximately half were associated with tampon use. Younger women (under the age of 30) are at greater risk than older women because they have not yet developed the antibodies to the toxin that causes TSS.
Scientists have not been able to identify the exact nature of the link between the use of tampons and Toxic Shock Syndrome. There may be a number of factors involved, including hygiene practices and the length of time a tampon is left in place. Greater tampon absorbency appears to be a factor, as there are more cases reported among women who use high absorbency tampons. Other risk factors include the use of barrier methods of contraception, such as the sponge, cervical cap, or Diaphragm. The material of manufacture, whether cotton or rayon, has not been identified as a risk factor.
