When too much water enters the body's cells, the tissues swell with the excess fluid. This causes the serum sodium concentration to drop (hyponatremia). When the fluid outside the cells becomes diluted, additional water enters the cells by osmosis, as the cells try to match the internal and external electrolyte concentration. Electrolyte imbalance and tissue swelling can cause an irregular heartbeat, allow fluid to enter the lungs, and may cause fluttering eyelids. Swelling of brain tissues can cause seizures, coma and ultimately death unless water intake is restricted and a hypertonic saline (salt) solution is administered. If treatment is given before tissue swelling causes too much cellular damage, then a complete recovery can be expected within a few days

Yes water like anything can be overdone and cause fluid overload, and heart failure. Check for diabetes, one of the symptoms.

The doctors will all tell you that you need so many glasses of water a day, but yes, you can drink to much water! I know some one personally that drank so much water that they died. This is a known fact that you can drink your self to death.

You are drinking way too much.
You don't need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day.
Drink when you're thirsty. Period! Don't live your life trying to accomplish something that has no scientific validity and is just an old wives' tale!!

There IS apossibility of creating a condition called "excessive electrolytes" but it is extrememly uncommon, if you are in, otherwise, good, normal health. *If you become dizzy, overly fatigued or feel "giddy" contact a doctor, at once.*** Are you urinating, a LOT - relative to intake?

yes, it is unsafe, it can cause hydric intoxication that is really rare but serious condition, it´s good that you are trying to drink water, but you don´t suppose to drink more than you body needs. if you are doing it to loose weight try eating more veggies, drink enough water and exercise

Yes, you can overdo anything, including water. It will flush all the nutrients out of your body and make you ill instead of healthy. Stick to six to eight glasses a day.

Too much of anything is bad. If our body doesn't need that much, then don't drink that much. It's that simple.

No way is it bad for you! our bodies are 70% water as it is. Just make sure that the water is filtered, and not tap, because tap water has a lot of toxins that are very harmful to your body. Chlorine and Fluoride, for example, are not good for our bodies even though all the media says it is. Research it! you'll see i'm right about that. Try finding the best filter you can, or just diluted water or something.

only drink water when you're thirsty, unless it's hot outside- then you need to drink a glass or three more to keep yourself properly hydrated.
i don't think 200 ounces will kill you or anything- unless you plan on drowning yourself in it.
Final verdict- it's good to drink water, but you don't really need that much.

Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia.

Good for you! But I doubt you are drinking too much water. 8 full glasses probably seems alot to most. Are you drinking more than that? I guess the only way it becomes unsafe is if you aren't eating regular food too. That and the possibility of peeing yourself is the only 'unsafe' thing that I can think of!

To all those people that said that you should only drink when you're thirsty - don't listen to them! The amount you are drinking is good - the only time it becomes unsafe is when you're in a competition like a marathon... under those conditions, you drink alot of water (ALOT more than 2 gallons), and don't replenish the salt in your body. It's very very difficult to get to the place where you drink too much water. Just drink 1 gallon to 1 and 1/2 gallon per day (ie, 200 oz is about 1 1/2 gallon).
