its possible that ur getting ready to have it..
its really not as big of a deal as it sounds like. every girl is scarred the first time but really its just a little blood and then its over. buying pads isnt that bad either. u shouldnt be afraid of ur aunt seeing you because every girl has to go through all this at some point.
so stop stressing out and get some pads so when it does happen you will be ready.
good luck! =D

Well, the big thing to remember is that almost all women have periods, so most of them will understand. I would talk to your sister, or your aunt, or another woman who you feel comfortable with. Have them buy pads for you if you're uncomfotable getting them yourself.
Stock up on Advil for cramps. Painkillers are a lifesaver during your period, for headaches and the like. Also, don't take asprin or other bloodthinners. I think that's self-explanatory.
Try pads first, because tampons are weird. You can switch over later, but for now, stick with pads.
If you stain your sheets or your clothes, use warm water and stain remover to get it out.
Also your period can start at any time, not neccessarily when you're sleeping. You might want to carry some pads or panty liners in a purse or packpack, just in case.
Also, keep pads and the like in a makeup bag inside your purse or backpack. That way, they won't spill out at an embarrassing time. =D
Above all else remember that all girls and women have, will have, or have had periods at one point in time. Most will be helpful and understanding about your problems. Any girl who makes fun of you probably hasn't had her period yet, and is nervous or embarrassed herself. Just ignore them, and move on.
Feel free to e-mail me with questions, or if you just wanna talk. =D

First of all, dont panic..everything is going to be alright. It is not true that you get it at night for the first time. It is possible but that is not a constant. Some hints to getting your period are pain in the breasts, cravings, bloating, and menstrual cramps...That should help you know when you are going to get it. As for pads and tampons, you can ask a friend to go and buy then for you. I don't know how old your sister is, but if she is older than you, she can also get some for you...don't worry...

Firstly you are at the age were you will start your period so time to take a more grown up approach. If your Father is the person who is mainly in charge of your well being then he will have to know as you will need to be supplied with sanitary protection, towels or tampons.Or at least money to get them yourself.Approach it in a matter of fact way.i.e. I think I may be needing sanitary towels soon.He will deal with it from there.Your first period can come on any time day or night.

I was 14 when I got mine and it started at school as pinkish stuff that looked like pink lemonade when I wiped...then when I got home I noticed blood in my underwear not a whole lot like some people's first but a trickle I told my mom and she said it was (finally) my first period...then it just started getting heavier throughout the day and lasted for about 7 more days. It definitely felt emotionally good to finally get it.
I didn't get a lot of pubic hair til I was around 13 turning 14 then at 14 I got it it sounds like you probably will get your period very soon in a few months or earlier also the discharge is normal and a sign that you will get your period soon.
and also I felt awkward at first buying them but after your first second period you get over the awkwardness and it's just like buying shampoo at the store.

Your first period can happen anytime and anywhere. You don't have to be in bed. Tell whoever in your family that you are most comfortable with, preferably female since they know more about it. You can also tell your dad, since he should be expecting it as your parent. You should go get some pads just in preparation. Why don't you want your aunt to see you? I think she should understand what you are going through and can help you too. Don't worry about it too much. You will be fine as long as you're ready.

it seems that a lot of other people have answered, but DONT WORRY! :) everyone gets their period at a different time and you are at an age where it is normal. stick with pads at the beginning, and try talking to your sister (if she is older) or maybe your aunt- just someone who has had it. also, you might be a while away even if you dont realize it. i thought i would have mine soon when i was your age, but i didnt get it until i was 14. and dont worry about the cramps either, they dont affect everyone. i dont have any pain when i get it.

For me it wasn't in bed, it was in the bathroom. For one of my friends it was in bed, but it isn't usually too much.
Is you sister older than you? If so, you could talk to her about it.
You're gonna have to go to your aunt's store, but don't worry, she'll understand (she is a woman too). If you REALLY don't want to see her, then you could go to the store when she's not working.
Don't worry, you mightn't definately be getting your period!
Good luck sweetie, you'll be fine!

I am 13 and got my period when I was 10. No, you don't only get it when you're sleeping, I just went to the bathroom one day, and I had it!
About pubic hair? That's hard to answer because I never remember mine growing. The oldest memory of my pubic hair is when I was 5! I don't even know if that's normal. Do NOT get tampons; get pads. Tampons aren't supposed to be used until a whole year after you've had your period.
Tell your dad, he'll be cool about it. I mean, he knows you're going to get it someday. But if you need to get your pads, I'd have a female go and help you. Your dad probably won't know how to pick out pads, so I'd have your aunt help you. And if you're close with your sister, and she can drive, she can also take you. It's nothing to worry about! Every girl will get their period around the ages of 10-14. You'll get used to it. Just make sure not to go swimming while you're on your period, unless you're wearing tampons, which should be a year later.
I hope this helps!

Mine happened at school, I felt 'wet' and went to check in the bathroom and ended up having to wrap toilet paper around a wad of more toilet paper and get that attached to my underwear to make it through the day. Have a pad with you, they have adhesive on the back so they stick where you put them.
The thing about the bed & sleeping--- yes! Thing is, if it starts when you're laying down, you'll suddenly feel it when you sit up and your muscles squeeze what's settled there, it pools then comes out. If you're worried about the mattress, get one of those plastic sheets they put under the bottom sheet, that helps a lot against accidents.
Use COLD water to wash the blood out, and soap. Hot water or warm water only sets the stain into fabrics.
Everyone has accidents, don't worry, it's going to happen. Don't be afraid to go in and get pads. Pads will be easier to deal with, especially the first 2 days where you have more of a flow coming out. You'll change a tampon every 2 hours or they leak, so pads are better at first. Tampons also feel odd at first.
EVERY woman needs pads/tampons. In fact, ask your aunt which ones are best to start with--she can give you tips. Some pads are for overnight (the bigger ones), some are too light (thin ultra ones, those are more for discharge). The Always pads have 'wings' which protect the edges of your underwear, I swear by them since they've saved me so much time in keeping blood off the elastic when the pad overleaks! I prefer the Always brand over the others just for that reason.
Go ahead and buy yourself a pack of pads just to be ready. Don't worry what your aunt thinks! It doesn't matter. You need to have the protection ready to go for when you need it!
My period is 5 days long, I get cramps the first two days, sometimes bad ones. The first two days are the strongest too, the last day is usually only half a day. Usually you'll feel a dull ache down there in the front (your ovaries) just in front of your hip bones on either side of the stomach, that's a good clue you'll start bleeding very soon, like in a few hours. The breasts get tender too, sometimes even sore, but only a few days before. Usually not during. You might notice mood swings too, like wanting to cry or get angry too fast for no reason. That's the hormonal shift. It goes away.

Don't be nervous, you're letting your nerves take control, and you don't want that. Just go to the store, buy the pads-and I doubt your aunt will say a thing-if she does just be honest-u'll see it's really Not that serious. And if you don't want to be honest (which is fine too)..u can just say you're buying them for a friend or ur sister. =)

i didnt start mine till i was 13. At first it is very embarassing, luckily i noticed while in the bathroom before it could cause any mess and i told my mum who gave me some of her sanitary towels. At some point you will have to let your dad know, im sure he would be expecting it at some point as its normal for all women. The best advice can give is dont worry, it not a big deal. If you prefer to talk to a woman about it, maybe your aunt can help? or your sister if shes older.

Mine first started when I was 11 and it did actually start while I was sleeping, but I dont know if it is that way with everyone. This is not something that you should be embarassed about it happens to every female. I was that way for years and finally I got over it. I know that this is a very nerve racking time, but just take a few deep breaths and it will be ok. It is a pain in the butt but it is a normal thing and you dont have to be embarassed about it, infact your sister would probably be a good person to talk to if she is older than you.

it could happen at any time now. anytime . If your sister is older than you she probably has alreadly been through this. If you don't want to talk to her, how about your aunt? Chances are she has been through this. I take it you are uncomfortable talking to Dad-understandable.
Why don't you want your aunt to see you? There is NOTHING to be ashamed of. Keep asking questions. There are plenty of females who have been where you are.

I started my period at night when i was sleeping, but you shouldn't be nervous about it. I was at the beginning, but now it's just an inconvience.
I would recommend talking to your aunt, it might be embarassing at first but she has periods also and would know alot of information for you. Don't be embarrassed though because this is part of puberty and life.
I would recommend tampons over pads, just because i think they are more comfortable and they don't smell while you're wearing them like pads do.
When you start your period, you know that you could wear a tampon and go swimming right?

When you first start your menstrual, you will know because the discharge turns brown. If it doesn't come back the next month dint be scared, this is normal for the first three years. Your period should last 3-7 days, 3-5 days being average, 5-7 days being abnormal, or heavy. If you are small, buy slender pads, if not use regular. I dint advise using tampons. Take Tylenol or Advil for menstrual cramps, or try a natural hot bath. You will be emotional when you first start, this is called pms, or pre-menstrual syndrome. You may not start for another year or two, so be prepared. I'm 13 so good luck, and I added you as one of my contacts. Love, Jackie

Hey don't worry about it. Practically every female has been through it or is going through it-including your aunt. Don't buy tampons as they can be painful to insert but pads are fine. If you get stomach pains, take some painkillers and make sure you drink plenty of water and eat food with lots of iron in it. Pubic hair is normal too.

12 is a perfectly normal age for all of this. You can start your period any time of day. In fact, I started mine at school, so it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Is your sister older or younger? If she's older, let her take you to the store. Even if you have to buy from your aunt...it's ok. She's a woman too, she's gone through the same things. Just relax. This is all natural.

You can get your first period at any time. But yes it can happen while you are sleeping.
No need to be embarassed buying pads/tampons all females go thru this. You should talk to a trusted adult female in your family or the school nurse.
Some females have pms which can include mood swings, water retention, cramps, etc. others do not.
There is no need to be nervous just a natural part of growing up.
Usually within the first year your cycle can be irregular. Stress, diet, exercise, hormone changes, medication can all affect your period as well. Most women have a cylce between 28 to 31 days.
