You may have a Yeast infection. I recommend you see your Dr ASAP and find out if that's the case, if it is usually its a pretty simple thing to get it taken care of. When I get them Its usually from lack of water and the good bacteria. My Dr recommended 8 glasses of water and a cup of Yogurt on a daily basis and that seemed to help after we got the Yeast infection taken care of.

Anytime you have a strange smell down there it is probably a infection. You do not have to be active for this to happen. You can have cysts that drains and causes infections. Most women don't even know they have them. It's normal to get them. Go see the doctor and they will take care of you.

you may have a thrush infection. just go to your local chemist and buy a cream. ask the pharmacist there, and they will help you (i think you yankees call them 'drug stores')
if the smell doesnt go away, then you reallly do have to see a doctor. you can get infections without being active. i have in the past. it is not a big deal, but must be treated

Are you experiencing irritation along with the smell? If so you may have a urinary Tract infection or a yeast infection, however, since you are on your period I'm going to guess it's just that typical period smell. It is not uncommon to experience an unpleasant smell during and before your period - sadly it's just a part of the whole business. If you're worried it may be an infection, make sure to drink lots of water and Cranberry juice (non-juice cocktail kind) and to see a doctor. Chances are though, you're simply experiencing a normal part of the menstrual cycle.

sounds to me like a yeast infection, theres a trick, buy a peri bottle (clear bottle with a small tip kinda what u use for hair dye but with a dish soap type of cap) found in all pharmacies fill it with really warm water, after you urinate (everytime if you can) use this instead of paper, before you go to bed use a lil soap then the bottle. if you get itching or burning with the smell then u 1 need to go to the dr or 2 ask ur mom to get u yeast infection cream hope this helps :)

The same thing happened to me, not sexually active teen, had my period for a few years, odor, discharge. Turns out it was a yeast infection, which can develop from a multitude of things, wet bathing suits, damp clothes, pretty much anything moist you wear for while down there, masturbation, or being on antibiotics for something like strep/bronchitis/etc. There are so many explanations. I'd call your physician and go in and get checked out. Yeast infections and bladder infections can be easily treated with pills, creams etc. Don't be embarrassed to tell your mom or something though because things like that are often associated with sex but don't actually come from doing it. She'll know that. Hope I helped. =)

It may be a natural odor (most women have one), a yeast infection, or bacterial vaginosis... you do need to see your doctor (obgyn or pediatrician) but all of the above mentioned are easily remedied and most women experience them throughout their life. Take a deep breath and call your doctor! :)

I would definitely wait until AFTER my period to start worrying. Some women do have an unpleasant menstrual smell, whereas others have little to no smell.
If you are still having an unpleasant odor 2-3 days after your period has completely stopped, then you should consult a doctor. There are many foul-smelling vaginal infections that you could have without being sexually active.

You probably have a bacterial infection. It could be caused by a number of things, you don't have to have sex to get one. Sometimes your hormones just get off balance. It is most common to get bacterial infections right before the start of your period because of the cocktail of hormones released (it's also most common to get yeast infections after your period stops!). Since you are on your period I would wait till after it is over to see the doctor, sometimes when your period stops your body will take care of the bacterial overgrowth itself. If you still have symptoms a day or so after your period stops then you should go to your doctor or planned parenthood and have them check for an infection. If you have one they just give you some antibiotics and your problem should be fixed! They also have over the counter test kits you can get by the yeast infection medications, although if you really feel this is abnormal for you and it continues past your period I would see a doc anyway.

Did you have any discharge before your period? Is the smell "fishy" (possibly a bacterial infection) or more like "bread" (possible yeast infection). You can buy a test kit at a drug store that will indicate if you may have a

I think you should make an appointment to see your doctor for some simple tests, such as swabs from the vagina, because there may be a low-level infection causing this.
One possibility is something called bacterial vaginosis, but there are other possible bacterial infections that often cause an offensive vaginal smell, sometimes 'fishy' in nature. These are not of a sexually transmitted type.
Do not be embarrassed about seeing your GP, the sooner you do, the quicker this problem can be resolved.
Yours sincerely

In all honesty it depends on what kind of smell it is.
Yes it is natural for you to smell not so fresh while having your period.
If it's a smell you've never smelled before and it doesnt go away after your period is finished, I would see your OB/GYN.

What type of smell is it? Certain things have certain smells. If you haven't been sexual then it isn't an STD. It can be a normal menstrual smell (which isn't pleasant time to time) or you can have a yeast infection. I would wait until after your period to figure things out. If it is still there then call your Gyno for information...possibly an appt.

Most people's flow has an unpleasant smell (i would say mine doesn't smell too good :D ). I would just say that it's pretty normal. I wouldn't worry unless you have any unusual symptoms.
Tampons usually help with scent- menstrual blood does not smell until it reaches the air.

It is not unusual for a young women or a women of any age to have a natural secretion and normal vaginal odor with-in the peri-area prior to her period. As the monthly cycle begins and the natural chemicals with-in ones body changes so will the secretions with the vagina, so you have nothing to be concerned about, this is natural. I would make sure that you continue with proper peri hygiene during this time and use a pad so your underwear do not get dirty and you also feel more comfortable.
Please make sure you change your pad every 2-4 hours or as needed and wear one to bed and put a fresh one on in the morning. If you also use tampons , same thing , change every 2-4 hours or more if needed and never leave one on during the night, wear a pad. Drink alot of water for water will put volume in your blood, it replenishes what you are naturally loosing through your period.
If this continues to be a bother for you, I would discuss it with your doctor. Good luck.
