if your still a virgin then you dont need to go on the pill..there is a cream you can get it is called progesteron cream that helps you balance your hormones... for the first 3-5 years of having your period you body may skip a month cause its really new to your body at 13....also if you get stressed you can skip a month or 2 so dont worry...

why would you go on the pill if your not sexually active?wel u are obviously thinking about it and to be honest you are way to young for that enjoy your younger days because the responsibilities of life will catch up with u soon enough.I'm saying that I'm only 24 and pregnant.

Um, no. At 13, your body isn't totally regular yet anyway! (even your cycles can vary from time to time). You're too young to worry, enjoy being young, please!

you are young and if you are thinking about sex then yes you don't want to get pregnant anytime soon. but remember the pill will only protect you from getting pregnant but not against other things

no... you are ONLY 13... that is normal for the first few years.... If it is still like that when you are 16...you should consider it... but right now... just let your body run its course...NATURALLY!!!!!!!!! just make sure you are always prepared... like maybe wear a pantyliner when you go out... and carry an extra pair of panties and a pad in your purse... I am 22 and I still carry that JUST in case... so no... don't go on the pill just yet.

If you want them regulated, then go ahead and tell your mom that. It could also lighten your periods and ease your pms symptoms.

Just talk to her. Maintain an open relationship.

WOW some people are just plain ignorant. There are more reasons than just prevention of pregnancy that girls would take birth control pills!

You have a very good reason to get on birth control. I started mine at age 11 and I was NEVER regular until I got on birth control around age 18.

I think you should get more informed first, try getting pamphlets or go to a local library to obtain info on this topic. Then, perhaps you could share this info with your mum and see then what decision to make. I do think at 13 it is quite early to be on the pill.

i was put on the pill, and it regulated everything

it even helps keep your skin clear (:

first question for you is, are you wanting them for sexual reasons, or to regulate a period.

if it is for sexual reasons you really need to think twice before you make such an important decision, just remember having the responsibility to have sex means having the responsibility to poteintially raise a child.

if it is for regulation reasons just tell your mom you want it to regulate you.

It's definitely an effective way to get your cycle regulated. I started my period when I was ten, and around age 12 it started to get irregular, and the birth control helped a lot. A lot of parents are more understanding than you'd think. Just explain to your mom that your cycle is irregular, and that you'd like to know if birth control could be a good option for you. Chances are she'll agree as long as you're open and up front with her.

I have a daughter who has had this condition, since she was young. She went thru the irregularities of it, and thanks to God she was able to control this and had a beautiful baby. Some women can't if this condition is left untreated. So I would advise you to talk to your mother about this, and show her this, and she can have you checked for this. The usual treatment is birth control pills, but at different percentage than the regular birth control pills.

Definition of Polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome: Abbreviated PCOS. Polcystic ovary syndrome is a condition in women characterized by irregular or no menstrual periods, acne, obesity, and excess hair growth. PCOS is a disorder of chronically abnormal ovarian function and hyperandrogenism (abnormally elevated androgen levels). It affects 5-10% of women of reproductive age. PCOS is also called the Stein-Leventhal syndrome.

Women with PCOS do not ovulate -- they do not release an egg every month -- and they are at significantly higher risk for high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer of the uterus (endometrial cancer). Much of this risk can be reversed by exercise and weight loss.

Medication is generally prescribed to induce regular periods, thereby reducing the risk of uterine cancer. For acne and excess hair growth, the diuretic Spironolactone (Aldactazide) can help. And for women who desire pregnancy, Clomiphene (Clomid) can be used to induce ovulation.

Studies have indicated that diabetic medications that are designed to improve the action of the hormone insulin may benefit women with PCOS. Long-term trials of these insulin-sensitizing drugs -- such as Avandia (Rosiglitazone), Actos (Pioglitazone), and Glucophage (Metformin) -- for PCOS are underway. The results appear promising. A type of surgery called a "wedge resection" in which a piece of the ovary is removed also helps some women with PCOS.

The cause of PCOS is unknown. However, the ovaries of women with the disease characteristically contain a large number of small cysts. Hence, the name polycystic ovary.

Other common names are polycystic ovary disease, polycystic ovarian disease, and POD.

Common Misspellings: polycystic ovary syndrone, polycistic ovary syndrome, polycistic ovary syndrone

Yes, just tell her that you're concerned about your irregular period, and you worry that it'll have some consequences. Just bring up the subject by saying "hey mom, did you ever get irregular periods?" lol...I know this sounds like a corny scenario, but if there's no other way to approach it, maybe this'll help. That way you can open the issue with her. There's no need to tell your mom directly that you want to be on birth control. Just tell her you'd like to go see a doctor about this, and when you go to the doctor, more than likely, your doctor will put you on the "pill" without thinking twice about it. That's the usual procedure. good luck

you really need to talk to your mom. At 13 it isn't unusal for you periods to be irregular. Tell your mom, your not interested in sex but you read the pill can help regulate your periods and help with pimples(yep, my daughter is on them for acne, she has a pretty face now)
you are still young, and if you are in no way interested in sex, you may want to wait awhile. She may understand better at 14 or 15. But ask, if she says no ask her what about when i turn 14? my daughter was almost 15 when she asked

Depends on if your periods are the only reason you want to be on the pill. If its just for periods than no you shouldn't get on the pill...if you've lost weight or gained weight your periods change.

When your period first starts, it can be irregular. I'm in my early 30s and I've never had a 'regular' period! I'll skip months here and there, double up some months... it's all over the place!

Perhaps you should discuss this with your mum. Personally, as an (accidental) single mum, I feel that contraception is important, but it is even more important if you're planning on being sexually active to use a barrier protection (like condoms). As I got pregnant while using condoms, I prefer to double up and use Implanon as well as condoms.

Really, when it comes down to it, it is your decision. I hate to encourage a kid to go against their parents, but if your mum says no, and you feel strongly enough about this, then you may have to go to a Family Planning Clinic by yourself. Don't forget that there are more options available these days than the Pill, things that are a lot more reliable.

Mum might say no because she's not comfortable with you being sexually active. This is something that you and she really should discuss together. When you go to her, go with some research and some calm, logical reasons why you want to do this.

it depends on if you think you may actually want to gain its benefits with the pill it can help regulate your period but if your mom is the problem then you can tell her that there are pills that make your period regular and lighter for you. but be warned when/if you do start to have sex it is not 100% to prevent you from pregnancy and it will not protect against STDS

Your period will fluctuate quite a bit throughout your adolescence, so a delay is nothing to be really concerned about. I would keep communication open between you, your mother, and your doctor regarding all sexual health issues (and issues in general between you and your mother). The only reason to go on birth control at your age would be if you were anemic, or had a very heavy flow. Otherwise, it's pointless, and adjusting your hormone levels with the pill could pose problems in the future. The pill is not intended for someone your age, but for someone who's body has matured (the female body reaches that point at 16 or 17, usually). If you really feel the need to go on the pill, then open up discussion, but it may prove more trouble than it's worth. Good luck!

Why do you want to go on birth control? You are much too young to be on birth control and really, much to young to be having sex. Having irregular periods at your age is not uncommon.

If you have to...it can even out periods...so you get them normal...and less cramps to...but birth control also has other things that can change your body depending on which pill you take...your chest can grow really big..or you can gain alot of weight...so be careful you dont wanna get rid of one problem ..and cause yourself another.

Have the conversation with your mother. If you think you are mature enough to need birth control then you are certainly mature enough to talk to her about it.

In fact if you're really this mature and serious maybe you should talk to your father as well.

OR you could just recognize that you are 13, and while that's the oldest that you've ever been it's not particularly old when compared to the rest of us. Hell it's not old compared to a high school senior.

Better idea. Don't put yourself into a situation where you need birth control at 13. In short, don't be an idiot.

At your age your body is just starting to get adjusted to the change of hormones, so it is normal for your periods to be not regular. Sometimes I'd skip a month or two for no reason.

Do talk to your mom about this. Get a good conversation going with her and regular dialogue so that you both are comfortable talking about the changes you are going through. Mom's are a lot cooler to talk about these things than you think, and they know more than your friends do.

((hugs))

tell her the truth. say your periods are very irregular and you want to go to a gynocologist . Express your concern.
Then when at the gyn doc ask her about the pill and if it's right for you.

It is normal to have an irregular period for the first 1-2 years of starting it.

Hi Haleigh. Wow, what a question!! If only more people were wise enough to think about birth control at such a great age. You mentioned you're a virgin. Make it "your" choice, when and with who. There is birth control and there is self control and once again that's "your" choice. How scary is your Mom?? If you think it's going to blow her away, try confiding in a mutual friend who would be comfortable opening up the conversation with her. Speak with your pastor or pastors' wife if you'd feel better talking it over with a woman. You're a very special person so treat yourself and your body respectfully. God bless and good luck.
